Common uses include; but are not limited to; instillation of scope rings and base screws, action screws and trigger guard screws. With proper care and use, the F.A.T. Wrench will provide you with a lifetime of reliable service. Package includes 9 bits and a square drive adapter.

What do I need a Tourque Wrench?

Adjusting screws on gun actions, scope bases ans scopre rings can not only prevent damage to your gun but can greatly increase accuracy.

What torque should I adjust my fasteners to?

Always refer to manufacturesr specs but we recommend:

Base Screws 30 inch-lbs

Ring Screws (aluminum) 10 -15 inch-lbs

Ring Screws (Steel) 15-20 inch-lbs

Windage Screws 30-40 inch-lbs

Guard Screws

(with bedding pillars) 65 inch-lbs

(no bedding pillars) 40 inch-lbs

*note: middle guard screw should not be torqued

Will bits from my Wheeler Engineering Screwdriver Set fit?

Yes. The bits included in the Wheeler 89pc set and 72pc set are designed to work perfectly with the FAT Wrench.

Storage Tip for FAT Wrench.

Never leave the Fat Wrench adjusted to high torque settings for extended periods of time. After each use adjust the torque to the lowest setting prior to storage. This will releive the tension from the internal mechanisms and ensure maximum accuracy over time.

The Wheeler Torque Wrench is a great little tool. Some years ago I over torqued and stripped some scope ring threads, so I have tended to treat them gingerly since then. After checking the screws with this tool, I discovered I have been under torquing the screws on all my scopes which would put them at risk for moving under recoil. I would have given this tool 5 stars except for the following critique: (1) the set is difficult to keep together since it does not come with a small carrying case for the tool and the driver bits - in this day when any $10 multi-piece tool from Home Depot has its own case for the various components, I should not have to use a Tupperware container for the tool and bits; (2) the only reference guide provided regarding the proper torque settings for various screw types is on the cardboard backing in the package - once again, one should not have to retain the packaging material as a referencer guide - this should be a small card or booklet inserted in the previously mentioned carrying case on a tool this expensive.

I was cautious to order this wrench because of the previous reviews: crude adjustments, no carrying case etc...
Well I was surprised when it arrived with its own hard plastic case. It held the wrench itself and all the bits securely. It also had a paper insert (instructions) that you could keep in there. The adjustments are not in 10 in-lbs increments, rather 5 in-lb increments. But you can make finer adjustments if you're not a moron. Maybe it seems "Wheeler" listened and addressed most, if not all of the previous complaints. This is a great little wrench that is very useful if you work on firearms or any small precision parts.

So, I was hesitant to pick this up... After reading a few of the reviews, I thought it may be a dud. Then, another buyer (Amazon confirmed) posted a review stating that the F.A.T. wrench now came with a case, and explained the adjustment mechanism (does do 5 lb - 65 lb @ 5 lb increments). Because of that review I decided to squeeze the trigger (pardon the pun). This torque wrench is exactly what I needed. Works flawlessly, and can't find a thing to complain about. The price is 1/3 the cost of similarly functional devices.

If you were wondering about this item, don't. It will do what you are hoping that it will do!

Most popular 3rd party guides tell you to "snug" the bolts. When you are working with aluminum receivers... I hate to gamble on guesswork. Preset non-adjustable torque wrenches ranging from $20 to $30 each wasn't doing it for me as I would have needed to buy three or four. Neither were the $150+ adjustable torque wrenches, they were ridiculously expensive. Decided to give this Wheeler FAT wrench a try.

This torque wrench came in a quality black plastic storage case with an instruction booklet and a set of standard gunsmithing bits. The bits satisfied all of my needs which included take-down bolts, windage adjustments, scope mounts, bases and rings on a variety of firearms. The marks by the gauge on the side of the wrench are in 5 inch pound increments, but there is nothing stopping you from setting your torque between them, so you can accurately set your wrench in ~2 inch pound increments. Also included in the box was a quality assurance slip that indicated my wrench is off by approximately 0.2 inch pounds. I tested this wrench with my father's torque tester and it was accurate to within 0.15 inch pounds - which is excellent for a wrench at this price point.

This product is durable and feels like quality. It is easy and enjoyable to use. I am very pleased with my purchase and feel like this adjustable torque wrench is good value for the money. The included case fits nicely into the bottom of my range box.

It was so easy to use that I almost didn't read the instructions. The manufacturer warns you to ensure you set the wrench back to zero prior to returning the tool to storage. Storing this FAT wrench with a torque setting may cause damage over an extended period of time. That's good to know, so I'm glad I read those instructions after all.

I am an amateur. I decided to start swapping scopes and stocks, and making other minor modifications to firearms some time ago. I found that I needed a torque wrench to make sure that screws were tightened evenly, and as tightly as they could be. Before I picked up the FAT, I crushed a scope (fortunately a cheap one), and split two stocks. Since I started using the wrench, I have not broken anything, and all of my modifications have yielded very good results.

I have no doubt that the FAT will not meet the strict criteria followed by professional gunsmiths (my fingers are crossed here), but it's reasonably affordable. My only real complaint is that the adjustment mechanism is inconvenient. You have to pull and turn the black cap on the bottom to change the setting, and that maneuver is difficult enough to be annoying. That said, It doesn't really affect the function overall.

There are several alternatives available in the same price range. Without testing them, I can't say whether any of them is a better deal. I can say that the FAT works.
