"Wheelhouse" is closer to "Play", his guitar album (which
I admittedly enjoy much more than this CD), than
its predecessor "This is Country Music." Paisley writes in the
liner notes that this album was intentionally created to be
a different compilation and he is correct. If you are looking
for a standard Brad Paisley album, you're better off
selecting "American Saturday Night", "This is Country Music",
or "Fifth Gear." Those albums feature much more of his
signature sound, song choice, and delivery that listeners
are used to. All of that being said, "Wheelhouse"
is not a flop. The lyrics to "Southern Comfort Zone" and "Beat This Summer"
are similar to Brad's usual fare, even if the instrumentals
have a slicker production quality. What sets this album
apart from the rest of his catalogue are the multiple interludes
(i.e. the wacky "Heart Attack" featuring Eric Idle), attempts to
cover more serious territory ("Accidental Racist" featuring LL Cool J),
as well as songs that are tailored to the overall sound and flow of this album
("Harvey Bodine", and "Death of a Single Man").
In short, the album sounds more like an indy record that was created
by an artist who is exploring new territory as opposed to a more
typical Nashville mainstream production. As Brad says, the album
may not be for everyone, but hopefully, it's for you.
I don't think that I will be listening to this album on a daily
basis, but as an occasional change of pace, probably.

Wheelhouse (Cracker Barrel Special Edition) - Brad Paisley

As the title to this review says, this is a special edition available at the Cracker Barrel and that is exactly where I purchased mine. There is some really well orchestrated music and has very good song writing.

Amazon has given to a very good description of the songs in this CD and if you pull-up the MP3 section you'll get to hear excerpts of the songs. I enjoyed listening to them while I had my meals and later on my drive home and still later listened to the rest of the CD.

The music is well balanced, not too loud or over bearing, but it puts you in a good mood. The length of this CD is 1:13:13 that's quite long for a county/folk album. So you really do get your monies worth. There is some well-written and well-engineered music CD's at the Cracker Barrel, usually found near the front door on a turn-style rack. If you can find what you are looking for there is always someone handy to check back stock or call you when it arrives.

As was mentioned this CD lacks a real good tear jerking love song, but with all the other music you really don't miss that it's not there.

This is a Sony Music Entertainment album has a SPARS Code: DDD and was recorded by Neal Cappellino at The Wheelhouse. I found this music to be bright, lively, and very entertaining. These recordings are full of vim, vigor, and vitality, they are dynamic and full, these are excellent examples of how the music should be played and heard. I enjoyed these very much. These recordings are produced in natural acoustics. Listening to this recording on a Blu-ray 7.1 system gave me genuine reproduction with precise depth gradation, original dynamics, and natural tonal colors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another fine Brad CD April 12, 2013
By AlfK
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I'm not sure what the controversy is about with one of the songs on this CD. Brad paisley really is 21st century country, paying attention to country's roots while bringing in something new. It's artists like him that are bringing a new form of music into the culture. His usual wit and humor are here, mixed with his honest and sincere views of how he sees things that could be better and wants to open that dialogue. I would have given it 5 stars but marketing all these different editions (regular, deluxe, cracker barrel) is a little irritating. I hadn't noticed that this version didn't include a digital palybook. Since there really is little or no cost to electronically send this, it's just a little annoying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great album April 6, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The pretty songs done beautifully are enough to 'make' this album, but there are some extraordinarily clever, humorous and still nice musically songs in there that are so great, I'm wanting everyone to hear them.

5.0 out of 5 stars He's said it was different March 2, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Brad Paisley said this would be different than anything he's done before, and boy was he right! Love his guest stars, they're fresh and unexpected too! MY favorite is gonna be the sweet love song, sorry (Mona Lisa)~ in fact hearing that on the radio made me finally decide to buy this album. But it's all a great listen!
