Gotta tell ya these little trucks are a lot of fun and very durable. My son and i have the green and white ones so we can race together and we have a ball.We don't flip or crash them on purpose but they get a lot of that during normal play. We own probably 20 rc toys and these are definitely robust. For only 9.6volt these are almost as fast as our 19.2 volt cars. They are the fastest 9.6v we have. A lot of bang for your buck.

I bought this RC car for my son and I to have fun with. I liked the fact that it was capable of high voltage torque from the optional 9.6V battery pack, plus the option to use regular AA batteries at a more manageable power, 8.4v. The car was great fun for a few months of limited use. However one day the motor was spinning freely with no movement. Luckily i got the car to work afterwords by moving the car manually and getting the gearbox to engage the motor. So we lived with that for a while, but used the car seldom. After a long winter, we brought the car out again. It was working fine for the first minute but it just died. The motor speed slowed to a crawl then stopped responding completely. I changed all of the batteries in the car and controller, and that woke it back up for only 30 seconds, then dead again. I've test all of the voltages; they were fine.
I am a mechanically minded guy, and tried to open the drive unit, but it is not meant to be serviced. Now I have extra batteries and a cool looking dead RC in my garage. I am very upset. it was an awesome toy. -extra note: We were very careful not to abuse the RC, by crashing it or running it while it was wet out.

I bought the green version of this car for my son this past Christmas. I was thrilled to see that this one's gone on sale, as it has the 27 MHz remote control. Now we will be able to run the cars side by side. I researched RC cars prior to my purchase. [...]:
[...] The site has a video link to the car in action. It highly recommends getting the battery pack, and I do too, as the performance will increase significantly. Battery pack will add about $20 to the cost, but probably worth it in the long run as you won't burn through tons of batteries.

After about 5-10 minutes of run time motor and gears dis-engage causing the motors to spin at high speed and vehicle stops. After trying to repair the vehicle multiple times I would not recommend this item.

The price to fun factor is off the chart and the price I paid was bargain basement. It's a toy for all age groups, it seems to be built well enough to take any abuse dished out and not brake or start falling apart. This was purchased for my four and a half year old grandson for X-Mas and his adult friends. For about a week solid this car was run non-stop and by run I mean into everything. It is still running like the first day and nothing has fallen off. I bought NiMH battery packs for the car on other reveiwers and the manufacturers recommendation, sound advice, it doubles the fun factor. The cars steering is alot of go no go, but the throttle control is very good in both forward and reverse at least on this car. This car will climb quit a ways up a big tree if the roots are angled right. The reviews on the R/C controllers range are about right it does seem short, but I thing this has some advantages when dealing with five year old drivers, out of sight out of mind.

Two years ago I looked at reviews from Amazon and other RC websites regarding the Dune Devil. Most of the remarks were quite good, so I decided I would take the chance and buy one. I bought the white one first and I was extremely impressed with how fast it was for an inexpensive RC. This is the by far the fastest 9.6v rc I've ever seen from Tyco or Nikko for that matter. With high speed comes frequent spectacular crashes, so I soon found out that the suspension and body were extremely durable. My only complaint initially was that it doesn't have enough low end torque to perform wheelies or enough ground clearence for tall grass, but nevertheless, I enjoyed this RC so much that I bought its counterpart for fun with a friend. The green one is a different frequency than the white, which allows you to operate both simultaneously. These cars easily run 20-30 min on a Nicd battery at ~1000-1200mah. The biggest problem I've encountered with one of the cars is that occasionally, the rear differential will will not connect with the gears and the car will not move. After a bit of nursing along with my foot it engages again. I would definitely give these cars a 5 stars if the differential were more solid, but for thirty bucks, what do you expect?

I bought this car for my 4 year old son and am glad for it. I wish I had gotten one for my older boy as well. Tough as can be. We build a make shift ramp and the boys lauched it off with glee. Tuff and Tumble was the order of the day.
5 Stars... not quite. Performance with the AA batteries was in and out most of the time - possibly interference or defective receiver. Outside of that - a very fun toy.

This RC vehicle is a newer version of an older model by Hotwheels which had a crappier steering assembly and crappier tires. This one turns great and the bigger tires grip better. The only issue I have is that when you play too rough with this one it calls a time out. What I mean is that if I run it too hard or for too long then the gearing will come loose. I took it apart to find that after playing with the car the motor will heat up and so will the motor shaft. this will heat up the metal gear on the shaft cause it to expand and disconnect from the shaft. When the motor is left to cool down then it will shrink and reconnect. It is more powerful than most new toy RC in its price range and faster. I think the motor is a 370 type. This vehicle would have been great if not for the gear coming loose when it heats up. If not for this flaw I would have given it 5 stars.

This car was a ton of fun while it worked. At first the wheels wouldn't engage when it was in the grass or otherwise "off-road". Now it just won't work at all. Very disapointing. You are better off to avoid this car.

This was broken within a week and was not replaceable because it has been discontinued. Too bad because it was wicked fast and fun... when it worked.
