From Publishers Weekly

Bestseller Alexander (A Visit from Sir Nicholas, etc.) is at the top of her game with her latest Effington family Regency romance. Her anonymity guaranteed by a mask, English miss Pamela Effington spent an unforgettable night of magic in the arms of the Avalonian crown prince. In the four years since, Russia has annexed Avalonia, sending Prince Alexei into exile in London. Through a mishap, the prince and Pamela end up living in the same town house; through her aunt's strategizing, they become entangled in a false betrothal. Their hearts refuse to believe the engagement to be fake, and soon Alexei and Pamela privately admit to their mutual love. An old flame from Pamela's past, plus Alexei's belief that a bitter prince without a country has nothing to offer the woman of his dreams, cause Pamela a great deal of frustration—but a determined woman can always show a man the error of his ways, even if she has to do it at sword point. Pamela and Alexei's verbal clashes are a hoot, delivering generous doses of humor that balance the more touching scenes. Skillfully paced to deliver readers breathlessly to the finish line, Alexander's newest adventure is light historical romance at its most entertaining.

More About the Author

New York Times bestselling author Victoria Alexander was an award winning television reporter until she discovered fiction was much more fun than real life. She turned to writing full time and is still shocked it worked out.

Since the publication of her first book in 1995, she has written thirty-one full length novels and six novellas. Find a complete list on her website http://www.victoriaalexander.com and chat with her on facebook https://www.facebook.com/VictoriaAlexandersPlace

The Perfect Wife--originally published in 1996 and reissued in March 2008--hit #1 on the New York Times list. Sixteen of her books are bestsellers hitting the New York Times, USA Today and/or Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. With books translated into more than a dozen different languages she has readers around the world and has twice been nominated for Romance's Writers of America prestigious RITA award. In 2009 she was given a Career Achievement Award from RT Bookclub and was named Historical Storyteller of the year in 2003. In 2008 she was the keynote speaker for the Romance Writers of American annual conference in San Francisco. Victoria credits much of her writing success to her experiences as a reporter.

Her years as a broadcast journalist were spent in two radically different areas of the country: Nebraska and West Virginia. In West Virginia, she covered both natural and manmade disasters. She was on the scene when a power plant construction accident in a small town left 52 men dead. She once spent the night on a mountain waiting to learn of the fate of coal miners trapped in a mine collapse. Victoria was producing a newscast when her husband (who worked at the same television station) and several other journalists were held hostage by a disturbed Vietnam veteran. In Nebraska, she reported on the farm crisis and watched people lose land that had been in their families for generations. She covered the story that was the basis of the movie BOYS DON'T CRY and once acted as the link between police and a gunman who had barricaded himself in his home. Her investigative work exposed the trucking of New York City garbage to a small town dump in rural Nebraska.

During her journalism career, Victoria covered every president from Ford to Clinton. She knows firsthand what it feels like to be surrounded by rising floodwaters and inside a burning building. She's interviewed movie stars including Kevin Costner, ridden an elephant and flown in a governor's helicopter. She's covered a national political convention and Pope John Paul II's historic visit to Denver as well as small town festivals celebrating everything from walnuts to Glen Miller. Her work was honored by numerous organizations including the Associated Press who called a feature about a firefighter's school "story telling genius". It was the encouragement she needed to turn from news to fiction. She's never looked back.

Victoria is a former president of the Omaha Press Club and in 2009 was named an OPC Face on the Barroom Floor. A caricature portrait of her joined previous faces including presidents, sports figures and politicians in a tradition that began in 1971.

Victoria claims her love of romance and journalism is to due to the influence of her favorite comic book character: Lois Lane, a terrific reporter and a great heroine who pursued Superman with an unwavering determination. And why not? He was extremely well drawn.

Victoria grew up traveling the world as an Air Force brat. Today, she lives in Omaha, Nebraska with her husband and her dogs. Victoria had two bearded collies, Sam and Louie (named from characters in one of her books). Sam (on the left), the best dog in the world for 13 ½ years, passed away in September 2010. Louie took on the position of loyal companion and did a fine job even though he doesn't understand that kitchen counter surfing is not allowed! Now he's been joined by Reggie, king of the lilacs.

They all live happily ever after in a house under constant renovation and the accompanying parade of men in tool belts. And never ending chaos. Victoria laughs a great deal--she has to.

This was another terrific romance from an author who has the ability to break down her characters souls and feed their emotional struggles onto the pages. The reader will feel the despair, the heartbreak, passion and the joy of Alexei and Pamela in this very excellent character driven romance. Alexei is an alpha male and Pamela is the spirited woman who captures his heart. Alexei and Pamela love for each other builds slowly and deepens until you can almost feel it. I really enjoyed the characters, as they were very likeable.

I love a book with lots of drama! The characters are colorful and unforgettable and make you want to yell at them one minute, next give them a shoulder to cry on , Next laugh out loud, and next feel their passion. The story and plot were entertaining and the heroine was spunky and fun. I laughed so hard at the dialogue and wit in between the characters. I was sad to have it end, but satisfied at the ending!

`When We Meet' by Victoria Alexander is a wonderful Historical Romance novel. I was up half the night enjoying every twist and turn of the story. The story unfolds after Pamela seduces a Prince after a grand masked ball and then meets him again fours years later and the sparks fly. The dialogue is great and sub-romance stories of the three other couples are amusing. I would highly recommend this quick fun read and would also recommend 'A Loving Scoundrel' by Johanna Lindsey and `All about love' by Stephanie Laurens.

Prince Alexei Pruzinsky of Avalonia is arrogance personified, dangerously charming, and a master at the art of seduction. He meets a mysterious young woman at a masked ball and spends one night in bed with her. His heart is touched in ways he has never felt before. They both know that marriage is impossible due to their stations, however, Alexei is upset that she refuses to take off her mask or tell him her name.

Miss Pamela Effington fled London six years ago rather than face scandal, thanks to George Fenton, son of Viscount Penwick, bragging to his buddies. She lives and travels with Aunt Millicent, who uses her widowhood and vast wealth to live as she pleases. It seems that Aunt Millicent is known world wide by all who matter. Pamela knows it is not safe to succumb to Alexei, yet she now has takes with her a glorious memory to cherish forever. Imagine Pamela's surprise when she finds Alexei and his staff occupying the London townhouse that she has recently inherited.

Aunt Millicent suggests that Pamela and Alexei pretend to be engaged. This would help ease Pamela back into Society's good graces. After all, no one could think badly of her if a PRINCE wishes to wed her. When she breaks the engagement later, every eligible man will beg for her hand in marriage. However, Alexei finds himself drawn to Pamela without knowing why and Pamela is desperately keeping her secrets.

***** The author includes a character named Valentina. She is Alexei's traitorous cousin. She has spent her life trying to kill Alexei, for Avalonia's own good of course. Valentina resides in the townhouse as well, claiming to have changed. As much as I really wanted to hate Valentina, I simply could not! The author did such a fantastic job on this character that she actually steals the show often.

This was my first Victoria Alexander, and I am happy to say, not my last. I really enjoyed the heroine being more independent and assertive. I reread the fencing scene at the end a couple of times, it was so good. It turns out, this was four different love stories in one book - for Pamela, Aunt Millicent, Clarissa, and Valentine, each with its own humor and sweetness. I would highly recommend this as a good romance read.

Victoria Alexander has written another great story! I won't go into the plot because other reviewers already have and you could just read the excerpt and get a taste of the story for yourself, but I will say this is a funny, sexy and wonderfully romantic story. The hero, Prince Alexei and the heroine, Pamela Effington, are interesting, charming, intelligent, and very passionate, fully developed characters. As we watch their ardent romance unfold, the author gives them many scenes filled with touching, thoughtful, stimulating, clever and just plain terrific dialogue, that allows the reader to really get to `know' the characters and realize they're perfect for each other.

The story also has a great cast of secondary characters that are lively, notable and laugh out loud funny. I thought it was great that the author allowed many of the secondary characters to achieve their `second chance' at love too.

This was a very entertaining story, that drew me in from the very first page. Ms. Alexander's lighthearted, fast paced and humorous style is always a winner.
