For those with open hearts,

This review is from: When Animals Speak: Advanced Interspecies Communication (Paperback)
This is an excellent book for readers who already accept telepathic animal communication as reality. As the subtitle states, this is ADVANCED Interspecies Communication. Begin with wonderful books such as Patty Summers' Talking With the Animals and Arthur Meyers' Communicating With Animals and practice with your animal companions before tackling the concepts presented here. As I continue to learn and improve my own telepathic connection, I reread sections of When Animals Speak and more and more of Penelope's statements that seemed beyond belief are now fitting like puzzle pieces into my newly-expanded worldview. I especially appreciate Penelope's candor as she describes being torn between providing the safe environment she'd like for her animals or granting them the autonomy for which they long. And I'm grateful for the wise words and lessons from the animal teachers which Penelope shares with the rest of us.

Crackpot or charlatan?,

I started this book with an open mind, really wanting to believe. As I read through the chapters, I could literally feel the doors slamming shut in my brain. I went from hope, to disbelief, to anger at paying money for this kind of unadulterated, new-age garbage. Penelope Smith claims to be able to communicate telepathically with animals. She claims to be an animal lover. As I read chapter after chapter, I became progressively more horrified as she told stories of her neglect and abuse of the animals under her care. The healthy Afghan hound she had put down, ostensibly because "She asked me to help her leave her body and this plane of existence", when in reality she just couldn't deal with having the dog around at the time. The other Afghan hound that showed symptoms of suffering from a brain tumor that she let go 5 days without eating, meditating over it to "Help it leave its body" instead of taking it for a quick and merciful end. This was her favorite dog that she couldn't seem to let go of. The tales of how she let her dogs run free in the woods to chase deer. She complains about her neighbors "Because they were sometimes quite critical and hostile". Well, perhaps that had something to do with the fact that Smith let her 2 dogs roam free, and both of them bit her neighbor while she was out jogging? Or could it have been that Smith's cat Sherman (who also was allowed to roam the countryside) got in the habit of visiting these same beleaguered neighbors, beating up and bullying their cats? Smith says to Sherman, "How could you do this?" She makes him promise not to do it again. He does it again. Three more times. Then there's the story of the 2 dogs that she let breed uncontrolled twice, because she thought it would be nice to have the puppies. This in spite of the fact that the female dog had severe behavior problems, and came from a line of dogs that displayed vicious and uncontrollable behavior.Smith has a glib answer and a spiritual reason for her neglect and abuse of the animals under her care. She even admits that she calls the vet only as a last resort. This, from a woman who lives in a very wealthy part of California; a woman who makes a lot of money using these animals to "teach" gullible people how to communicate telepathically with them. As I read, I went back and forth, wondering, "Is this woman delusional, or is she a slick and conniving charlatan?" After reading her explanation that Afghan hounds did not evolve on Earth, but rather were brought here from outer space in their present form, I'm starting to believe she is both. Oh wait, I think I'm getting a telepathic communication from Smith's animals...yes, it's coming in loud and clear...it's... "GET US OUT OF HERE!"

One of my absolute favorite books of all time!,

This review is from: When Animals Speak: Advanced Interspecies Telepathic Communication (Paperback)
I have dozens and dozens of books in the fields of Spirituality, New Age and Eastern Religion, and this book is one of the most inspiring, deeply moving, and life changing in my collection. I have read things in this book that I have not found anywhere else. Penelope's experiences of animal communication rings true to my heart. Her abilities and experiences have had a profound impact on my world view and have inspired me greatly. Reality is far vaster and far more magical than we have been taught to believe. While others may find this possibility threatening, I find it liberating and a way of connecting with my soul's truth.
