Book Description

August 4, 2009

The trusted guidebook for animal lovers that describes the astonishing ways in which humans can speak with—and listen to—all creatures.

In this comprehensive follow-up to the widely popular Animal Talk, a respected leader and pioneer in the field of interspecies communication, Penelope Smith, outlines advanced techniques for conversing with animals. She explains that since animals think and perceive differently from humans, readers need to have a true willingness to share, listen, and learn to successfully communicate with them. Although most humans assume that an animal functions on pure instinct, unaware of its own past or future, that’s just not the case. Many subtle secrets about the world can be gleaned from animals once readers know how to see the world through their eyes. Cats, dogs, and other domesticated animals may be more receptive to communicating with humans, but they’re certainly not the only ones with fascinating information to share—Smith shows how humans are also able to speak with roosters, rabbits, insects, llamas, snakes, and many others in the animal kingdom. In addition to chapters devoted to developing and enhancing mind-to-mind communication with animals, When Animals Speak includes an illuminating look at animals as healers, teachers, and guides and even delves into more abstract, advanced forms of interspecies communication, such as contacting spirits of nature. In this accessible book, Smith is sure to delight and instruct animal lovers interested in forging a new bond with animal beings and the natural world.

More About the Author

All her life, Penelope Smith loved animals and communicated with them. Now, she didn't just talk aloud to them but transmitted her thoughts and feelings non-verbally or telepathically, and understood what they communicated to her by receiving their thoughts and feelings. Animals, both domestic and wild, have been her friends, confidantes, and teachers for as long as she can remember.

As a spiritual counselor in 1971, Smith discovered that animals could be relieved of emotional traumas and other problems through the same counseling techniques that helped humans. The details of her amazing counseling session with her first animal client, a black and white cat named Peaches, is told in her book, "Animal Talk," first published in 1978, and now in its sixth edition. The profound results of her adventures in communicating and counseling with animals and their people are found throughout her subsequent books, audio, and video publications. The training and experience that have contributed to her success are her educational background, with bachelor's and master's degrees in the social sciences; years of training and experience in human counseling, nutrition, and holistic body energy balancing methods; research into animal nutrition, anatomy, behavior, and care; plus the firsthand education from the thousands of animals she has contacted.

Smith's visionary work as the leading pioneer in the field whose name she originated, "interspecies telepathic communication," has been featured in newspaper and magazine articles, such as the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Natural Home, and Woman's World, numerous books, and on radio and television (Coast to Coast, NPR Weekend America, Fox Channel News...). She has developed tried-and-true telepathic communication techniques, complementing ancient wisdom and modern scientific knowledge. Her methods foster people's ability to understand and communicate with animals on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. A legendary teacher for over three decades, she has helped launch the careers of numerous professional animal communicators. People have affectionately called her the "mother (and now the grandmother) of interspecies communication." Smith feels that the sacred connection we make through telepathic communication with other species is essential for human wholeness. She believes that everyone is born with the power to communicate with other species, and that, although it is long lost for most people, it can be regained for the benefit of all beings on Earth.

Smith is the author of the popular, classic books on the subject, "Animal Talk" (available in many languages), "When Animals Speak," and, "Animals in Spirit." She is the founding editor of "Species Link" magazine since 1990. Her audio recordings include the "Animal Communication Mastery Series," "Animal Healing Power," "Animal Spirit Call," and the "How to Communicate with Animals Basic Course." Her DVDs include an overview of animal communication, "Telepathic Communication with Animals" and a retreat at a wild animal sanctuary, "Wild Animals Speak."

Smith lives in a log cabin in the Ponderosa pines of Prescott, Arizona with her animal family.

5.0 out of 5 stars When Animals Speak: Techniques for Bonding With Animal Companions, November 16, 2009
This review is from: When Animals Speak: Techniques for Bonding With Animal Companions (Paperback)
When Animals Speak is Penelope Smith's strategy for discussing what happens, when humans listen.

Penelope stays matter of factly in some instances and in other instances goes intuitvely empathic, while describing the full range of agenda and temperament required for humans to truly hear what animals are saying.

She explains many aspects of animals' infinite capacity for unconditional love, including how animals take on our insecurities and health issues to compensate for the human's refusal to self-heal and evolve.

Penelope also addresses animals' eternal connection to nature, and she compels that human companions honor this instinctive call to serve the planet in fulfilling their own 'higher-purpose.'

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I have since ordered Penelope Smith's remaining titles and they are equally informative. I don't have the patience to read all of her intersperced poetry, so I just skip over some or most of it. I definitely recommend her writings.

This is the 3rd book I've read by pet-whisperer Penelope Smith. It's truly profound! She has matured as a writer as well as an interpreter. Should be a must-read for animal lovers.
