Book Description

February 2, 2012 3 - 5 years
One cold winter day, Blue returns to her nest to find something wonderful: Egg! Or rather a snowball she mistakes for an egg. Blue puts Egg in a pail and sets off to look for Egg's mother. But as the winter winds down and the temperature goes up, Blue is in for a sad surprise. Not to worry, though. In this sweet story of friendship, even snowmelt grows into something beautiful.

With her intricate cut-paper illustrations, Lindsay Ward perfectly captures her lovable characters and their world in this unforgettable, heartwarming tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars So many reasons to love Blue... February 5, 2012
Format:Hardcover
Blue is a little bird with a big heart, helping her friend Egg find its home in the sweet story of WHEN BLUE MET EGG. What starts as a quest for Blue quickly transforms to a friendship where Blue can't imagine a day, a week, or a month passing without Egg at her side. In the end, Blue discovers that friends can change over time, but that just means something lovely can grow between two great pals. This is the type of picture book that kids will want to read again and again because the illustrations have so much to discover. Ward works in cut paper, which means that fun images such as maps, equations, postmarks, and other ephemera might be glossed over in one reading only to be spied during another. This picture book will definitely appeal to those who love New York City, adventurers, and nature lovers alike. There's nothing more adorable than Blue ice skating or visiting the Statue of Liberty. Ok, well maybe holding up the UPC code on the back of the book. Too cute! Can't wait for Ward's next book. I hear it is something about a polar bear...should be quite a rumpus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous! August 28, 2012
Format:Hardcover
The illustration and the story are fabulous! My kids and I loved taking a closer look at how the illustrator used many different types of paper to make the pictures -- the buildings are sooo cool! The conclusion to this book is perfect! I highly recommend this for parents to read aloud to their children.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Yorkers will love it! July 7, 2012
Format:Hardcover
This is a clever and creative picture book. Visitors to NY and especially New Yorkers will love the book for the depictions of its well known sites. Illustrations are lovely, story is sweet, ending has a punch. As a retired educator and now a children's author, I am in awe of the picture book that has it all. And this one does!
