Excellent resource that stresses the importance of caring for others
on June 4, 2009
Therapist Cornelia Maude Spelman has written a wonderful series of books for children, teaching them how to cope with various emotions. In "When I Care About Others", the focus is on promoting empathy, as experienced by a young bear cub. Written as a story, the bear cub goes through various situations where he first shows he needs to be cared for, but then later cares for others too. There is a brief note to parents by the author at the beginning of the book that explains how it is important to emphasize to children the need to be caring. At the end of the book, there are tips for inculcating empathy in children. The illustrations are vibrant and colorful and help make the story real for children.Highly recommended series of books for toddlers and up!
