"When Cops Kill" covers both the human as well as the legal side of a critical incident. This book should be required reading for any Law Enforcement Supervisor. However, any Law Enforcement Supervisor who cares about the Officers under their command should want to read this book.
CORPORAL ROBERT (BOB) LITTLER - COBB COUNTY POLICE/RETIRED
Lance LoRusso, a former cop and a distinguished lawyer, wrote When Cops Kill from the perspective of real life experience which helps readers truly understand what law enforcement officers (LEO)deal with after a critical incident utilizing force. Though written for LEOs, this book is also useful in helping the general public understand the realities of what happens when cops are involved in a critical incident. Thus it is an excellent tool for equipping anyone desiring to exercise good citizenship with a detailed perspective of what happens behind the headlines and sound bites. Anyone wishing to be well-informed about the realities of what happens to some police officers in their effort to maintain a well-ordered society should read this book.
No doubt it is a must-read for LEOs and their families. It not only educates them about how to handle criminal, administrative, media, and state licensing investigations, but also prepares them for the civil ramifications (what happens if they get sued) and, more importantly, the mental and emotional trauma they endure. As an example of the ramifications of the mental and emotional trauma, Lance provides a comparative analysis of the pre-event stress in an incident involving use of force and that of a car wreck. Most of us have either been involved in or witnessed a car wreck and understand the difficulties of accurately recalling all the details immediately following the event, not to mention the conflicting reports of eyewitnesses. In comparison, an incident where one's life is at stake is more stressful.Read more ›
