5.0 out of 5 stars Wise counsel from compassionate authors, June 4, 2004
This review is from: When the Cradle is Empty: Coping with Infertility (Focus on the Family Presents) (Paperback)
I have read the articles from the van Regenmorters for years through their work with Bethany Christian services. I have always found their answers to be wise and compassionate, so I was anxious to read a full-length book by them. This book features many stories and anecdotes from couples struggling to conceive, and disusses the emotional and spiritual challenges a couple will experience. There are also practical tips on how to form a support group and how to help educate and sensitize your church and pastor to the issues infertile couples face. Two things I especially liked about this book were its short chapters, (you can start/stop reading as you feel emotionally ready to tackle each subject) and the chapter on asking "Why." The book is written from a compassionate, Christian view, and strives to sound like a talk with a friend, not a lecture from a stranger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sorting out the ramifications of infertility., August 14, 2004
This review is from: When the Cradle is Empty: Coping with Infertility (Focus on the Family Presents) (Paperback)
Support for couples coping with infertility, from a conservative Christian perspective.

This broad takes a broad perspective on the issue of fertility; it addresses emotional aspects, coping with society, biblical reflections, and approaches to resolution. It is a useful resource for women who are in the throes of sorting out the emotions created by infertility, or are investigating various steps to take in their hopes for a family.

3.0 out of 5 stars I agree with some points...., March 6, 2006
This review is from: When the Cradle is Empty: Coping with Infertility (Focus on the Family Presents) (Paperback)
I was expecting a little more from the book than what was offered. I felt as if I were being told how to feel rather than being comforted with words. Perhaps I mustn't be so senstive. Infertility is not an easy subjet to discuss and hurt feelings are bound to arise. I didn't seek medical help until my husband and I tried for three years. According to this book, that's a huge no-no and I was almost frightened that there might be absolutely no hope since we delayed our trip to the doctor.
Try to keep an open mind when reading this book.
