This review is from: When Duty Calls (Paperback)
When Duty Calls is well written, and very insightful. It is a useful tool for helping those that are going through similar situations especially with what is going on in the world today. Many families are seperated due to war and conflict, and this book is an excellent look at how to keep it together.

"When Duty Calls" Heartwarming-Delightfully Fresh- A Must,
By J. Paquette (Clifton, CO, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: When Duty Calls (Paperback)
When i retired after 30 years working as a civilian employee for the United States Army, I realized I had lost something, I had lost a family. Not just the Faith DeVeaux family of "When Duty Calls" but the real family of the Army. Ms DeVeaux has brought those 30 years of working with, knowing and loving Army families alive for me again. If you had a connection with any Army "family" in the past, you must read this heartwarming book. If you have had no connection with the Army family you will enjoy this delightfully fresh new author. "When Duty Calls" is a must for any reader.

This review is from: When Duty Calls (Paperback)
This charming nook chronicles the lives of a family who has been become emotionally separated over the years. As the protagonist's husband lies on his death bed, she must rally her children together. In order to keep her strength and give the family hope, she reads the letters they sent to each other when he was serving in the ARMY in Vietnam.Faith DeVeaux gives an outstanding account of how one woman deals with keeping hope alive, bringing a distant family together and finding the missing piece in her life. This book identifies with its readers by alerting them not to take people, especially friends and family for granted, that even bad things happen for a reason and that sometimes we have to look to the past for unexpected solutions. Overall it is an enjoyable book that gives all a sense of hope. It reminds all of us of the strength that we have inside of us and of the emotional side effects of war.

This book shows how love can endure many obstacles. The loving and caring between two people and their family makes tears come to my eyes with happiness knowing that people can stay together during difficult times. A simple letter and a few kind words can play an important part in keeping a family together. You MUST read, especially during these emotional times in our country when many families have been and/or will be separated!

By Laris Pickett (Wichita, KS United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: When Duty Calls (Paperback)
With America remembering the veterans of World War II, the soldiers that served in Korea and Viet Nam also have riveting stories about serving their country. Many went to serve their county leaving a sweetheart, wife, and family. This book is based on letters between a man serving his county as a Military Chaplain and his loving wife back in the states. The letters reveals a Chaplain serving his Lord and Country and sharing his experience with his wife. His wife writes to him trying to keep her husband involved with his family while they are apart, and reminding him of her love for him. His letters reveal a strong, caring, loving husband with concern's for his family. Recommended!!

Love, Courage, and Sensitivity-this book has it all!,
By Sherry L. Rhoades (Milford, KS USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: When Duty Calls (Paperback)
This book captured me from the very first page. If you are a history buff or just like to take a walk down memory lane, don't miss this book! Though relatively short, the book packs a big impact in it's authentic emotional portrayal of the life of a gospel minister. The book is set in the Vietnam War era and is artfully developed through the eyes of a Military Chaplain as he writes letters home to his wife and family. It is soooo real; I got goose bumps and tears more than once. The book reveals a very sensitive, intelligent man trying to serve the Lord and his country at the same time during a very difficult time in our nation's history. The book is powerful as much for what it doesn't say in the letters as for what it does say. Personally, I related to every aspect of life at this particular moment of history. I, too, was a newlywed during this time, having grown up as an "Air Force" brat. The military references were absolutely authentic. However, due to the fact that my husband was, too, a gospel minister, I related mostly to the Colonel's struggles with duty, purpose and longing as he completed his tour of duty in Viet Nam. The letters reveal a wonderfully caring, loving individual. He is so human in his concern for his family and attempt to serve a higher calling. I won't give away any of the details of the letters. I'll leave those for you to discover as you cuddle up to a really good read.
