Mordern Day Proof,

This review is from: When Ego Dies: A Complication of Near-Death and Mystical Conversion (Paperback)
I wish I could speak to the people in this book. First hand views from people who have died. I have much less fear about dying.

Having lost several loved ones in the past five years left me feeling so alone. In my heart I believe what I have read in this book to be true. I felt my loved ones with me as I turned every page.

It seems that as the years and decades go by, books regarding the near-death experience get more and more fantastical and preachy, and less and less believable. This book is a good example of this trend. It is a collection of writings by various people who claim to have had such experiences. There are a few accounts that seem to be genuine, written in plain language by ordinary people who had a profound experience, but the great majority of stories are fluffy, fanciful, painfully new-agey (or religious) tracts that read like they were written by would-be professional authors who want to be published. I am interested in the subject of NDEs but this book was nothing but a frustrating waste of money and time. It's too bad this subject matter has become the domain of people with active imaginations, an agenda to push, and little regard for integrity. I actually give it NO STARS!

Comforting and Tender,

As I grow older, more and more of those who shared my life have passed away. I was given this book five years ago when my father passed away. I have again read into its pages as I feel for my mother's love. I have given this book to many as they process the passing of a dear one. May the stories of those lives shared give comfort to anyone who needs TLC. I thank those who shared their experiences.

This book was given to me after the loss of several family members. After so many nights of strange dreams and strange feelings during the day , my priest friend gave me a copy. I share the book with many friends and strangers. What a loving effort by those involved. Thank you

A collection of poorly written accounts, embroidered with lots of extraneous padding material, this book is not for someone who is serious about investigating NDEs. These first hand accounts, (most of which are not NDE accounts, but new-age cliche "spiritual experiences") are written by people who really don't know how to write.
What is more damaging to the book's credibility is that some "members of the club" seem to have invented their stories just so they could join the club and write a chapter. There are too many details in several of the stories that just do not jibe with all the hundreds of other cases with which I am familiar. For example, I've never heard of an authentic NDE experiencer say that they learned that (prior to their NDE) they were going straight to hell for the sin of being an Episcopalian. If anything, true NDE experiencers are more inclusive and loving, not more narrow minded and intolerant. This book reads like exactly what it seems to be; a group of friends with no training or experience as writers or researchers each writing a chapter and calling the whole thing "a book" just because it has pages. There are so many excellent books on the subject of NDEs it would be a shame for someone interested in the field to waste their time and money on this volume.

I can totally understand both sides of the coins. On one side you have people saying "Yes, this is proof of Jesus Christ" while on the other side you have people saying "This is such nonsense, and I believe in Near-Death Experiences!"
I am going in the middle. While I have read perhaps a thousand plus NDE cases, they don't compare to half of what is in this book. Not even full-fledged books compare to some of the stuff that comes up in this book. I don't know if these people were all brought together because of how well their cases could be documented, or if they are all liars. I just don't know. I can't call anyone a liar, but the fact is that out of all the NDE cases I have read, the ones in this book are extremely extravagant. I will just say this: If you love NDE books like Life After Life, stay away. If you are a Christian and want more proof that Jesus is real, buy this book. To desire what one can not remember or to steal a gift not given makes one a blind man at a beggars banquet. Sadly, Dr. Kevorkian is not available for tutoring. I suggest a blower dryer and a hot shower for your first hand experience. As Jesus points out, the way of the heart, not the mind. Let not one's intellectual madness blind you to what is.
