Product Description

In this enthusiastic childhood tale, Little Critter imagines all of the exciting things he'll do when he gets bigger. He'll go to the store all by himself, stay up late watching movies, and cruise around on a cool pair of superpro roller skates. He might even get a two-wheeler and a paper route! Eager young children will love this story as they envision all of the things they'll be able to do when they get bigger.

Words pop up when an object on the screen is tapped

Mercer Mayer's Little Critter stories, which address many of the daunting challenges of growing up, are perennial favorites of parents and children alike. Now deluxe, interactive omBooks from Oceanhouse Media bring the stories to life. These books can also help build your child's reading skills in fun and innovative new ways.

Listen, Read, Laugh and Learn

Choose one of three ways to enjoy the story: Read to Me, Read it Myself, or Auto Play. The Read to Me option allows your child to listen to the narrated story, highlighting the words as they are read. The Read it Myself mode gives your child the chance to read each page in the traditional format and turn each page with a swipe of a finger. Auto Play will play the story like a movie, automatically reading and turning the pages; this is a great option for very young children.

A mini-game makes repeat reading fun for kids
A mini-game makes repeat reading fun for kids

Individual words are highlighted as the story is read, making it simple for children to follow along and recognize words. Touch the words or long-press any paragraph to have them repeated. To enhance learning by picture and word association, your child can touch any object on the screen and the word will pop up in bright, bold letters. Finding these "hidden nuggets" is just another engrossing aspect of the book.

Creative Features

Unique background music and surprising audio elements add unexpected fun to the storytime experience. A charming young narrator vocalizes Little Critter's amusing exasperation perfectly, and nicely placed sound effects make each page full of delight.

Also included in this story is a "find the creature" mini-game. Kids will enjoy trying to track down the cute little mouse that appears on many pages. Each time he or she touches the little guy, a fun sound effect will confirm the find. When the story's over, the book shows the total number of mice discovered--providing one more incentive for kids to read the book. Add Mayer's original art--wonderful illustrations that zoom in to reveal the carefully rendered details--and this omBook is sure to become a favorite.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice :) August 22, 2011

I have begun buying these apps of Little Critter and my daughter loves them. So far we have only four: I just forgot, When I get bigger, The new potty and Me too. Out of all of these, my two year old likes "Me too" and "The new potty". Each story has a good ending which summarizes the story and a plot of some kind, a lesson to be learned. Out of these books, I think this one is the one without a real plot. It just talks about the little critter daydreaming of what he will do when he grows up. The images are not necessarily connected with one another and are a little bit random. The ending is a little plain but as a whole I still like the book as well as the series. I removed one star from the rating only because I thought the idea of the book could have been better made and the pictures not so randomly placed. My daughter likes all of these all the same.

4.0 out of 5 stars These are like picture e-books but better March 4, 2012

I have bought 6 of these stories from OceanHouse Media and my kids like them all. You can read the story yourself; have it read to you, but you still turn the pages; or you can put it on auto-play and it will turn the pages while it reads the story all on its own.

You touch the pictures and it will say and show the word, on one page alone there are lots of words to bring up from the pictures. On the page where he is camping there is owl, tree, leaves, tent, backyard, grass, night, moon, little critter, mouse, blanket, and rock.

When it is on Read It Myself you can tap on the words on the screen and it will say each word, it reminds me a lot of the Leap frog books.

I like that unlike e-books, which only take up a fraction of the screen on my kindle, these take up the entire screen.

I love this book! One of the things I love is the different things you can do with it and how it teaches the children to read. It can be set to read to yourself, read itselt and auto play where it reads to you and turns the pages. It highlights the words being read. You can also point to pictures and the words for what it is comes up. I really would like to get more little critter books as well as find others that do the same thing.
The pictures are colorful and creative and the book is engaging.
