5.0 out of 5 stars Being 60 Is Grand!
Sixty once sounded so old, so staid, so quiet, so settled. As I approached my own 60th birthday, these adjectives didn't seem relevant. Thanks to Wendy Reid Crisp's latest book, a collection of thoughts from women from across the globe, I am reassured that I am not alone. 2.0 out of 5 stars Product cute, delivery terrible
I bought this book as a birthday gift. When it finally arrived more than a week and a half later (even with express shipping), I delivered it late to the birthday girl. We looked at it and had a lot of laughs. Cute book to ease the pain of turning 60.

Forget the old-lady shoes, the rocking chair, staying at home -- being 60 means being relaxed about who you are, knowing how to accept what you must, and setting whatever goals and objectives you wish. Making new friends, traveling to new places, learning new things -- those of us in our 60s can and will do that (and much much more) as the writers in this book show us with humor and warmth. This delightful book is the perfect gift -- for oneself or a friend of any age.

5.0 out of 5 stars We laughed a LOT, October 23, 2006
I was lucky enough to interview Wendy on my radio show on station WGNU in St Louis. It happens that I am a sixtyish lady and found the book wonderfull appropriate!
Wendy is a HOOT...we just laughed through the whole interview and we and our listeners felt like we'd related and knew the author and the book by the time (an hour later) that we were finished.
This is the sort of book you pass around to friends and give to pals who are having their 60th birthday. One of the great things about women getting older is that they really care about their friends and this book is a perfect illustration of that.
Hurry up and write the 70th birthday book, Wendy...I'm approaching it FAST.

5.0 out of 5 stars You might as well laugh, November 11, 2006

I saw this book in a gift shop and knew I could get it at a better price through Amazon, so I ordered a copy for my cousin, who turned 60 last month. She has since bought copies for her friends who are turning 60. It's a great gift book with funny insights, not just platitudes about the aging process. A little humor goes a long way!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE gift for any woman in or approaching her 60s!, April 11, 2006
Wendy Reid Crisp's little gem seems to touch on every aspect of aging as a woman in our culture and our times. She has created a collection that manages to be at once philosophical and irreverent, lighthearted and sober, thoughtful and hilarious. It addresses our fears, our victories, our passions, and our every mood. This book is an inspiration and reminds us that our generation is now reinventing aging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensual, sure-souled, serene, spectacular and soaring...., April 11, 2006

Oh, will 60 be upon us so fast? Actually, in her lovely book of anecdotes and words of wisdom, the witty Wendy Reid Crisp makes me WISH for the day I turn this magical age where patience and adventure play equal parts. Or, as the many contributors to this collection let us know, an age where there is spontaneity, safety, and savvy in words starting with the letter S.

Beyond the one word that comes to the mind of the uninitiated in the wonders of turning 60, one can expect to finally let go and be anything one has ever wanted to be but didn't dare: scandalous, skilled, subversive, social butterfly, slippery, sensual, sure-souled, serene, spectacular, strong, sanguine and soaring. Or you could be surrendering, simple, stoned, speechless, surprised, silly, selfish and sober.

But the real treats in this little book are the morsels of wisdom and wit that Crisp feeds the reader, nuggets of insights and astute observations as in under "Sure-Souled" comes, "I aspire to ethical consistency: Walk the talk, put my money where my mouth is, be a woman of unchanging virtue. Instead, I rant against the exploitation of children in the sweatshops of developing nations as I stock up on $5 bras from Burma."
Or under the heading "Sensual": "Our bodies are orchestras, the members of which have been playing together for over sixty years. Even with the loss of a bassoon or a trumpet or two, our music is soothing and stirring. Sensuality is the warm-up."

This inspiring book is my new "Book of Psalms," and I intend to give it to all my friends still in their 40s and 50s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life begins at 60, May 31, 2007
We Baby Boomers are moving into a new decade. For us 60s generation women, the 60s decade of our lives is a perfect fit. It is time once again to be free, to be inventive, to be thoughtful and philosophical, to be outrageous, to be brave. We are finally the Queens of our Selves, sovereigns of our own lives and domains. How exciting! And what fun!
