Book Description

April 2, 2004
Harry: You realize, of course, that we could never be friends. Sally: Why not? Harry: What I'm saying - and this is not a come-on in any way, shape, or form - is that men and women can't be friends, because the sex part always gets in the way. Sally: That's not true. I have a number of men friends and there's no sex involved. Harry: No, you don't. Sally: Yes, I do. Harry: No, you don't. Sally: Yes, I do. Harry: You only think you do.

Review

"A winner, a lavishly romantic lark, brimming over with style, intelligence and flashing wit." -- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

"[When Harry Met Sally ...] will go down as the classic of 1989. One of the most endearing, enjoyable films ever -- I couldn't recommend it more highly." -- Marilyn Beck

"A comic valentine to love..." -- Time

"A buoyant comedy! It contains what may be the year's single most uproarious scene." -- Gene Shalit, Today, NBC-TV

"Deliciously funny ... You'll love it. I dare you to resist it."

-- Judith Crist --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

From the Inside Flap

Rob Reiner's enormously funny and moving When Harry Met Sally ... -- a romantic comedy about the difficult, frustrating, awful, funny search for happiness in an American city, where the primary emotion is unrequited love -- is delighting audiences everywhere. Now, the complete screenplay is published. Written by Nora Ephron -- author of screenplays for Silkwood and Heartburn (from her own best-selling novel) -- When Harry Met Sally...is as hilarious on the page as it is on the screen. The book includes an introduction by the author. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love at Third Sight: Nora Ephron's "When Harry Met Sally...", April 19, 1998

Screwball comedy is dead. At least it was after motion pictures became colored, and more and more expensive, filled with action and meaningless special effects.

"When Harry Met Sally...", however, marks the rebirth of that genre long forgotten. And just like Rob Reiner's 1989 film, Nora Ephron's screenplay transports the charm, the wit and likeability of characters that are not heroic stereotypes or unreal personalities, but everyday people with everyday problems, striving for a not so everyday happy-ending.

Featuring the hilarious fake-orgasm scene that easily found its place in movie history, and one of the most touching declarations of love ever written, "When Harry Met Sally..." is a modern classic, a must-read for future screenwriters and playwrights, just as well as for everyone with a sense of humor and a romantic core.

I have been a fan of this movie for years and have seen it well over 500 times. Although I found three minor erros in the transcript while I read the book, It was still great.
