Review

"The next time we hear from a woman who feels alone in her faith, we'll know just where to turn. Nancy Kennedy has given countless souls new strength with this helpful book. It's desperately needed and long overdue. When He Doesn't Believe, supplies hope for every wife who wonders if God has not heard her prayers for her husband's salvation. Nancy writes from the heart, and your heart will be touched by her words."
--Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott, Authors of When Bad Things Happen to Good Marriages

From the Inside Flap

You Can Thrive–Not Just Survive–in An Unequally Yoked Marriage
Marriage is challenging, even under the best of circumstances. But for those of us whose husbands don't believe or are not growing spiritually, marriage brings difficulties unlike those faced by other women of faith.

If you love a man who is not committed to Christ, you may feel frustrated, guilty, or anxious; discouraged and lonely. You likely worry about how your husband's beliefs–or lack of them–will affect your children. Perhaps you, like so many women, have tried to "help" your husband find or deepen his relationship with God–only to find that you have, unbelievably, pushed him farther away. You may be wondering, "What do I do now?" Or, worse, you may have lost all hope. God is still in control.

Speaking from experience, Nancy Kennedy offers biblical truth, practical help, and comforting insight from women who have walked in your shoes–and who have come to better trust God and more fully understand what to do (and what not to do) When He Doesn't Believe.

INCLUDES THOUGHT-PROVOKING DISCUSSION QUESTIONS, STUDY AND APPLICATION TOOLS, AND POINTS TO PONDER AT THE END OF EACH CHAPTER–
TO BE USED WITH YOUR PRAYER PARTNER, SMALL GROUP, OR ON YOUR OWN!

Nancy Kennedy writes very funny and thought-provoking insight on how to "handle" an un-yoked marriage. I don't crank up the Christian music while my hubby's home (just like I don't appreciate his Rolling Stones) but it did help me understand that I am indeed quite normal. She also provides Biblical tools, websites, and books for additional help and information. It can be very painful not being able to share one's faith with a spouse, but at least I know I'm not alone. So glad I found this when I did -- read it, then let's chat over coffee!

This book is EXCELLENT for all women. I use to wish I could find a book that told me why my husband acted or thought the way he did. I finally found it in Nancy's book. I bought this book for a friend whose husband is not a Christian. As I started reading through it I could hardly put it down. I begin to learn where I as a wife with a Christian husband was making my own mistakes. We grow up believing that men and women are basically the same. We hear it on TV and movies and even from "the Experts", but Nancy points out how we think very differently about things. She explains many times "the saved wife" goes about the wrong way trying to convert her husband. Nancy teaches us (ALL OF US), how to allow GOD to do the work that WE are trying to do. It really is a "MUST READ" for all Christian women. Whether you are married to an unbeliever or not, this book will be of GREAT benefit for any wife.

At this point, I don't know anyone that I can talk to about being a believing wife to an unbelieving husband. When I open the book, it's like I'm hearing from a good friend. God has given her the gift of being able to help me get out of self-pity, and turn to the One who can lead me through everyday life with my family. No more 'what-if's', this is my life. What is God's purpose as He takes me through it? I am called to love. Love is the greatest challenge, whether you are married to someone who shares your faith or not. I highly recommend this book for the encouragment and objectivenes she is able to deliver.

One of the better books out there on the subject of unbelieving partners. Unlike some books of this nature, this book is not depressing but hopeful.
It deals with unbelieving husbands who openly say they dont believe. I have yet t find a book or sermon on the topic of a man who thinks he is a believer and yet in truth is not born-again.

When my husband left the faith, I thought my life and my marriage were over! This book helped me see how to work through this enormous struggle, and covered every topic I had trouble with, from attending church alone to raising spiritual children. Every day that I read from this book, I treated my husband with more kindness. Now that I have finished reading it, I think I will probably have to read it over and over every day so that I don't give up. It is amazing how Nancy practially read my mind and had an answer to all of my questions (and the answers are backed with scripture!) I highly recommend this book to any woman who feels "alone in her faith."

If you have a husband that doesn't believe, this book is an encouragement for the believing spouse. There are real life scenarios that take place that I totally related to as well as insights into how we can be better wives to our husbands. One thing I have gleaned so far, my husbands salvation isn't going to change all of his habits that I don't care for. I highly recommend this book.

I am a women's Bible study leader and we chose this book for a group of spiritually single women. I must admit I was quite disappointed with this book. I didn't feel like it really gave tools for women in a spiritually unequal marriage to use. A lot of it was to just accept your husband the way he is and accept that this is what God wants for you. There were many times I questioned the author's view that this is what God wants for you at this time. God wants my husband to be unsaved? There were some helpful aspects to the book - realizing that we cannot change our husbands, that we are not responsible for others' salvation, etc. It was nice to know the author has a strong marriage despite the fact that her husband remains uninterested in Christ. There are some things that give hope in this book but overall it left me disappointed and didn't really tell me much that I didn't know before.
