Alot of Christian 'spiritual' books are written way over the common persons head. Many are preachy. Many are boring. When Heaven Comes Down by Che Ahn is NOT one of those!

When I was given the opportunity by Bethany House to review this book I thought it would be just another 'spiritual' book. Another boring one that I wouldn't finish reading and that would collect dust on my bookshelf. NOT SO!

I stayed up reading this book in one night. I was drawn in more by the real life true stories Che mentions and was reminded of experiences I personally have had with God. I was revived and challenged to daily allow God's grace and presence be with me. I am recommending this book to the staff at church. I will recommend this book to Christians, old and new!

A must read for ALL Christians!

5.0 out of 5 stars Are You Hungry To Experience More Of The Lord In Your Life?, February 8, 2010
By
Gretchen (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
This is a powerful book that ignited a new hunger for God in me - and continued a journey that I feel the LORD started me on within the past year, but that really began in my childhood. The knowledge that God is still moving in signs and wonders and is speaking and wants us to learn to hear Him loud and clear on a daily moment-by-moment basis. He wants us to have a relationship with him! And what does relationship involve? It involves getting to know each other (although He created me, so He already knows me even better than I know myself) - what does He like? What makes Him laugh? What delights His heart? What makes His heart break? How does HE see others around me that He also created? And trust me, it's often a lot different from how I see them!

Che Ahn's book begins as a testimony of what the LORD is doing right now around the world - many things that my own family has witnessed also. As people are spending time getting closer to the LORD, praising and worshiping him and getting hungry for more of HIM - both corporately and separately, He is showing up. My own family has seen gold dust appear on people, tasted manna (wafer-like food from heaven) that appeared and they've seen angels. Che Ahn tells about things that he has witnessed and also shares the stories of others - people being raised from the dead, seeing angels, things appearing such as angel feathers (I asked my sister, since she has seen angels and she says that yes, many of them do have wings with feathers), flawless gems and gold dust, rain inside of buildings, etc.

Before you think that I am getting excited just about the experiences - but trust me, how could an experience with God not be exciting? Please understand, I agree that the purpose of experiencing God's glory personally in our lives ultimately bring HIM glory, changes us for the better and MORE THAN ANYTHING is meant to help fulfill the Great Commission of letting the world know about him.

Something that my Dad heard as a young Christian and that I heard recently was "be careful that you are not seeking experiences more than God." When my Dad first became a Christian about thirty-five years ago, he had some amazing experiences with the Holy Spirit. When he went to church and told people about it, they told him this. My question is: If I am seeking experiences more than God, why would He answer my prayer to experience more of Him? (and how could it be bad/wrong to experience more of God?). I don't think He would answer my prayer to reveal more of Himself - or anyone else's prayer either - if it wasn't a good thing.

The LORD intends for the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead to be at work in our lives. As Che says, salvation is the beginning, but He does not intend for His mighty power at work in our lives to stop there!

3.0 out of 5 stars Healing and Grace, November 16, 2009
This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
When Heaven Comes Down is a wonderful evangelical tool. We look at what one woman goes through once she decided her faith in God's promises are written for her. On page 105 she decides to leave her hearing aid at home because she just knew God was healing her during that ministry time. Just as she's about to get up and leave in defeat God speaks to Che Ahn's heart and the word is given just as her ears pop open and hearing returns. How often do we leave right before God does something. Have you ever left and then wondered if you would have received if you'd stayed just a couple more minutes? God has called the authoress into a ministry of healing hearts with her heart, voice and pen. This book gives each reader an honest review of When Heaven Comes Daown- daily miracles that are from the supernatural grace of God.

Each word can be embraced and is laced with the Lord's encouragement to his children. What a wonderful realistic look at today's missionary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book, November 15, 2009
This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
When I picked up this book from Bethany House I didn't know what to expect. I had never heard of Che Ahn, but something about the book drew me. The book is about experiencing God's glory. Ahn first explains what God's glory is and gives many anecdotes of peoples' experiences with it. He explains the waves of glory (the Revival movements over the last couple of centuries)and his view of what the future holds. I was aware of some of this history and happy to hear the rest that I wasn't familiar with. This book is a great companion to another Bethany House book that came out this year: Love Has A Face by Michele Perry. Both paint a beautiful picture of what can happen when our life's goal becomes having a closer walk with our Father in Heaven and pursuing holiness.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring guide to knowing God's glory, May 19, 2010
This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
When Heaven Comes Down by Che Ahn is a terrific guide to understanding God's glory. Ahn, the senior pastor at Harvest Rock Church in Pasadena, has experienced the glory of God in many areas of his life and wants to help the reader gain that same blessing. His stories of miraculous healings and holy visions are inspiring. He breaks it down in several chapters how God is working in the world today, what to expect in the future, and how to bring holiness into your own life. Sometimes his writing can be a bit wordy or professorial, but where it shines are in the anecdotes about lives truly changed by the touch of God. Ahn will encourage readers to want a deeper, more meaningful relationship with the Lord.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stirred up my already hungry heart...., May 15, 2010
This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
First of all, reading Che Ahn's book requires a quiet, earnest dedication in note taking and praying. This little book is a gem packed with stories of God's glory transforming people and seemingly impossible tasks suddenly become possible when you begin to tap into the Lord's resources. Che Ahn takes careful consideration in his words and he illustrates and provides scriptures to back up what he says. For instance, Che Ahn introduces us to two forms of glory. The eternal glory and manifest presence of God and further compares the two to the Sun(When Heaven Comes Down, pg. 26).

Some subjects he touches on are:

Definition of Glory

Destined for Glory

The Glory and the Apostolic Movement

The Glory of God and Transfer of Wealth, and much more.

As a side note, while reading this book, I was already personally hoping to have more glory in my life and to be encouraged and taught how to help spread it. I believe that because of a yearning I had in my heart already once I opened up the pages of Ahn's book, the flame was kindled brighter in me and each page had to be highlighted and explored further. Some examples of God's manifestations in his book have seemed far too fantastical to me, yet the bible had similar instances occur: such as clouds appearing in temples/churches, people claiming to have gems fall from the sky and gold caps forming on teeth. Che Ahn explains that there are records and dental experts who can back up these facts as well. So who am I to judge?

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Live Up to Its Promises, February 23, 2010
This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
What drew me to this book was the promise of accounts of "firsthand experience of revival around the world." By nature a skeptic, I want to believe more than anything! I want to see God's face. One of my favorite verses in scripture is Mark 9:24, when a boy says, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!" I sometimes feel overburdened with knowledge about God and lacking (and craving) intimacy with God but not always knowing how to get that. Che Ahn does provide personal stories about encounters with God, but ultimately, I think he misses the mark by focusing - I think - wrongly on what he calls the Glory of God.

Ahn's thesis is that we can invite God's Glory (yes, capitalized) and in so doing invite supernatural healing, interaction, and intimacy. I found, however, that his evidence was anecdotal at best. On pages 62 - 68 he gives several stories of healing and even raising someone from the dead. But in none of these instances is there any detailed proof or evidence other than Che Ahn's word. It isn't that I think he is lying, but if this book was written to those who do not already agree with him - those like me who are seeking intimacy - then he failed as those who do not already agree with him are too skeptical to change their minds based upon the word of an author they don't personally know. In fact, in one situation that really stuck with me was where he prayed for a person injured and looking dead from a car accident. Ahn admits that the man was not dead but does nothing to dissuade onlookers from thinking that when the man moved he was raised from the dead! It is that kind of trickery that I am disillusioned with.

Overall, an interesting look through the eyes of a very charismatic preacher into the world as he sees it, but not anything that brought me closer to intimacy with God. Ultimately, I believe the book failed to live up to its promise to show me how I could experience the Glory of God.

4.0 out of 5 stars Are you or will experience God's glory?, January 2, 2010
This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
Have you ever wondered about the glory of God? Have you read in the Bible about how the glory hovered over the ark of the Covenant? Did you think the glory of God was just about times in the Bible? That only the most holy people ever experienced the glory of God?

Senior Pastor Che' Ahn, will take you through this easy to read book, and show you exactly what the glory of God is, and what you can expect to experience. The first chapter will define what God's glory is and what it entails, Pastor Che' Ahn breaks the glory into two classifications, the eternal glory and the manifest glory of God.

Each chapter takes you through and teaches about the manifestation of the glory of God. The eternal glory of God is the glory that basically is with God since God was (forever, thus eternal). Read and learn about experiencing God's presence through his manifestations. Learn that God does not just give us His most Holy presence for the thrill of it, that we learn and experience his glory for purpose in our lives.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Experience of God's Glory, November 11, 2009
By
This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
Being born and raised a Christian, I've often wondered if I've really had any close encounters with God. I've grown up in the church, been surrounded by Christian friends, attended Christian schools, been born-again, and I've actively pursued a relationship with Christ. With this, if I were to ever consider having any close intimacy in the way of manifested glory, the closest I've ever really come to this would be some hair standing on my arms with a feel of chills as I've worshipped in the sanctuary with others. But when it comes to my body jerking around, laughing uncontrollably, or speaking in tongues, I would have to say that I've never really experienced these kinds of emotions.

Sometimes, I'll feel God's presence when I feel like my decisions are being pulled a certain way or I have strong feelings to do something in particular. I've never particularly experienced any angelic encounters or fog rolling in to the sanctuary. This concept is very new to me and I've never really thought about this sort of thing happening to others very often. Perhaps, other believers have never really shared their experiences of manifested glory with me.

Nonetheless, the author has introduced me to the concept of God's glory as it is written in the scriptures. When I first began reading it, I will admit that I was waiting for the punchline, if you will, as he described his wife and daughter's "visitation of glory" at Mott Auditorium. However, I was interested in this new perspective on God's glory as described in this book. And I found myself interested in the stories of others that the author shared.

That said, I appreciated this perspective and interpretation of the Bible that I've never really heard talked about in church. The author himself mentions that "to judge these things by outward appearances alone can be misleading. It has left to much critcim from certain church groups (p.40). Part of me thought of some of the hokey religious shows that show people twitching and shaking on the floor as I read some of it. Even more, the author writes, "yet even though God's presence is within us, His presence can also come to us (p.36).

While I don't agree completely with his entire take on this subject, partly because I've never really experienced some of what he describes, I do find other parts of the book very right-on. I am interested in trying out some of his ideas to come closer to God. Also, I appreciate a book that does discuss a subject I've scarcely heard discussed.
