Alone Time With Thicke,
By k. lane "jester1436" (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: When I Get You Alone (Audio CD)
Who would have thought Alan Thicke would have a son that would have a music career, much less one that opens off with a dirty funk song? Ripping a sample from classical disco instrumental "Fifth Of Beethoven", Robin Thicke has produced a leftfield R&B/Funk tune for his surnamed debut. The only thing that I can think of that has a similar sound is that of Jay Kay and his band Jamiroquai. The single itself could be packaged better, the tracklisting is a bit blah, including an album version, a cleaned up radio edit, and a funky disco instrumental. The song makes up however, as an out of nowhere pop stomper. Good stuff.

Like the title says, why isn't this song on the radio? For all I know, it may very well be on the radio somewhere, but I want to here it on my local top 40 station!!! (whine, whine, whine) Anywho, I love this song! It's classically based (classically sampled) with a funk edge. Thicke's a brilliant songwriter, so give him a chance. I'm salivating...waiting for his album to drop! Hurry up, Thicke!

Robin Thicke's "When I Get You Alone" is one of those songs that makes you wonder why you don't hear it enough. I owned this CD and had loved the song long before I even knew who his father is. Besides, I don't think his father really has any real bearing on his music career because I'm sure Robin would have been out a long time ago if that's all it took.I loved Robin Thicke's use of the disco version Beethoven's Fifth in this song. The lyrics are catchy, the music is funky, and you can't help but get up and dance when it comes on! I think this is an excellent debut from somone who probably won't get a lot of mainstream attention, but will be remembered nonetheless for his incredible musical talents!
