5.0 out of 5 stars Blow Me A Bubble
This book is so wonderful it kept not one but 2 classes of preschoolers in rapt attention. They loved repeating the scat, feeling the cadence, letting it flow to create their own scats. It captured their imaginations and creativity. And it taught them a little music history to boot. What a great read, or do I mean ride!

3.0 out of 5 stars Scataboooo
I bought this book because all the praise it got in the reviews but,for me it was not an enjoyable book to read. I love Louis Armstrong and I enjoy listening to his scat, as well as other scat masters like Ella Fitzgerald, so I thought it would be a great book to introduce this style of music and singing to my son. I thought we would have a blast singing the made up words...

5.0 out of 5 stars SCATACULAR!!!!, May 27, 2009

Absolutely wonderful! I read this book to my nephew and by the last page we were both bopping our heads and scatting right along with Muriel Harris Weinstein's rhythmic, magical words. She's clearly a pro and her love of jazz oozes off the page right into the reader's swinging shoulders and tapping toes. Loius Armstrong must be scatting his praise for Weinstein and this perfect book. I highly recommend it!

THE JIM JAM JAZZ OF THIS BOOK'S SONG. The voice in this book makes you wanna sing, makes you wanna dance, makes you wanna laugh and makes you wanna do all those things with mommy and daddy and sister and brother and cousins by the dozens.
It is a wonderful book waking up the music in a child. It wakes up the EAR of a child in its word-play. Wonderful springboard for children who love to learn words and for children who have difficulty as it it plays with those words and the child-listener/child reader will laugh and enjoy attacking words or listening to the sounds of words.
I am a teacher in elementary level and I know that the kids will fall in love with this book. Go get it for all the kids in your family.

My students want to buy a copy for their home librarty or bedroom shelf so they can have it close by. This pleases me as they go over the words that are vivid, the words that are not easy to attack and wind up laughing as this book makes it FUN !

5.0 out of 5 stars Best kids' book I've seen in a long time!, September 29, 2009
By
Hilary P (Scarsdale, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: When Louis Armstrong Taught Me Scat (Hardcover)
Let me start by saying that I LOVE kids' books. My three children (ages 4, 4 and 6) have hundreds of books and I've read hundreds more in kids' book stores. This book was simply amazing. My three kids (two boys and a girl) ask for it EVERY night. In fact, I was just in New Orleans with my six-year old and she saw a Louis Armstrong CD in a store and asked me to buy it so she could listen to Scat!!
Reading this book to my kids is a pleasure. The words are written in such a way that it feels like you are scatting when you read it. It is like poetry and rolls off your tongue so easily! Most importantly, it really held my kids' attention and made them interested in such an important musician that they might not have known about otherwise. The illustrations are beautiful. I just can't say enough about this book! Bravo! (Or should I say "Oobbely Coobely give me some scat!)

This is a beautiful, lyrical ride created by the author and the illustrator. When Louis Armstrong Taught Me Scat is fanciful and freeing, unleashing one's imagination while teaching about scat and Satchmo. The rhythm of the book sweeps us along like a quiet trumpet blowing softly on a warm summer's night. It is fun and informative for "children" of any age.

5.0 out of 5 stars a bubble full of fun, August 12, 2009
This review is from: When Louis Armstrong Taught Me Scat (Hardcover)
Muriel Harris Weinstein's scat is great fun, not only for kids, but adults will love sharing it with their little ones. It's so upbeat and full of tongue twisters and rythmn it makes you want to scat in your seat. A real unique piece of work about one of our great performers, told through a little girl's perception. I've heard it read many times and never get tired of the wonderful imagination Ms. Weinstein has presented in this real cool, real hot, oopleyoopleydo of a book.
