When Love First Cried is a Winner!,
By
This review is from: When Love First Cried (Audio CD)
SONICFLOOd's first Christmas album sounds amazing. A blend of old carols and original songs, "When Love First Cried" makes a great addition to any Christmas collection.
The album opens with title track, "When Love First Cried." This stand-out song paints a beautiful picture of the birth of Christ, while pointing to the ultimate sacrifice of one day bringing salvation to the world. Other highlights include: "This Is Christmas," a remake of the Plus One song, given a pop/rock flare. "Ring the Bells" is an original song that is upbeat, fun, and worshipful. You will find the chorus stuck in your head long after the song has finished playing! "Noel (Glory to Your Name)" puts a new spin on "The First Noel" that you will not want to miss hearing! Rick Heil's soothing vocals, paired with great musicianship will put you into the Christmas spirit each time you listen!

Represents All that is Currently Wrong with Contemporary Christian Music,
By
This review is from: When Love First Cried (Audio CD)
If I could give this a zero star rating, I would. This effort represents all that is currently wrong with contemporary christian music. Cookie cutter, bland, repetitive, studio scrubbed dribble that is instantly forgettable. Scrub.wash.rinse.repeat. Wrapped in all the studio technology, breathy vocals, canned orchestra and drum machines you could want and probably recorded through an IMac computer.
When this band decided to record a christmas cd, you would think these guys would take their clues for creative christmas songs including refreshing takes on some of the classic holiday songs from recent efforts like Mercy Me, Relient K, Future of Forestry (their EP) as well as Michael W. Smith's older efforts. But they did not, and so it ends up being one giant yawn of a cd. Their version of "O Holy Night" is the worst version I have heard from any artist in the last several years. For a song that is filled with passion and emotion, they recorded a snoozer as if they sang it after eating a Thanksgiving dinner and they were ready for a nap. Just boring, dull and awful. Download their version and then down load Michael Crawford's or David Phelps versions of that great holiday song and you will hear what I am talking about. The whole cd is at the same emotionless level. Save your hard earned money.
