3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing like the Plum books.
I had high hopes for this as the reviews were really positive. I waited and waited for the funny parts and never found any. There were lots of places that were probably supposed to be funny, but fell flat for me. The use of the F-bomb bored me pretty early on. It was used often. I liked the story and finished the book because I wanted to see what would happen. The plot...

This review is from: When a Man Loves a Weapon (Bobbie Faye, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
The only disappointment in this novel is the fact that it eventually had to end. I could have happily read 1,000 more pages featuring Bobbie Faye, Trevor and Cam (as well as the supporting characters). I imagine even after that epic length, I would still be unhappy that it was over. Causey manages to makes this series more and more interesting with each novel. The characters and the crazy plots remain ever so interesting and engaging.

Bobbie Faye is as hilarious as ever--and as we saw in the last two novels--she has this incredibly vulnerable side, too. And Causey showcases that vulnerability in an incredibly genuine manner. In fact, everyone showed their vulnerable side in this novel. The scenes with Bobbie Faye and both Trevor and Cam are so genuine, so steamy, and occasionally, so heartbreaking. While I absolutely love her with Trevor, I gotta tell you--I love her bond with Cam. After reading Causey's short story about Bobbie Faye & Cam (the beginning) on her website, I would happily pay money for a novel about their relationship before Trevor came along.

Now don't get me wrong--I'm hoping that eventually Cam will move on to find true love elsewhere, but right now? I'm hoping that doesn't happen for a long, long time b/c the scenes with Trevor and Cam are fantastic at creating tension. Bobbie Faye's concern and loyalty toward Cam are believable and this history & affection between them is undeniable.

The minute I finished this novel, I booted up the computer to find out when the next one will be released and I'm going bonkers not knowing when I can get my next Bobbie Faye fix.

Oh, and the quotes opening each chapter? FREAKIN' FANTASTIC. :) I'm still laughing...

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, November 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: When a Man Loves a Weapon (Bobbie Faye, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
I wanted to wait until I read all three Bobbie Faye novels before I wrote a review. This series was being compared to the Stephanie Plum books, and the cover said fans of Plum would love this. I have to say, it was spot on. There are some similarities between the two series. Bobbie Faye, like Stephanie Plum, has a talent for getting into a lot of trouble - all she has to do is step out of the trailer. Sometimes she doesn't even have to that to run into trouble. There is also the love triangle. In the Bobbie Faye novels it is Cam (long-time friend and eventual lover); they get into a wicked fight and are both stubborn which prevents them from getting back together or being friends again. Mostly Cam fights with himself and his strong desire to lock Bobbie Faye up in order to keep her safe. Readers discover how fiercely independent she is from the very start and can see why there is so much conflict between the two. There is Trevor, the bad-boy FBI, spookie-ookie, who falls for Bobbie Faye in the first novel, and does the opposite of Cam, he encourages her to be self-sufficient and to look out for herself. Finally, there is Bobbie Faye herself. She's looked out for both her younger siblings, and now her niece. She's not only independent, but loyal, witty, sarcastic, and funny. Both heroines also have great pride in where they're from: Stephanie with The Burg and New Jersey, and Bobbie Faye and Louisiana.

So what's the difference between Stephanie Plum and Bobbie Faye? I think, as a fan of both series, that there is just more passion in the Bobbie Faye books. More oomph! The disaster scenes are much bigger and louder. In a Plum book you expect Steph to get into a couple of fights, blow up a car (hers or Ranger's, or both), and it's more slap-stick comedy with the help of Lula and her Grandma. Bobbie Faye doesn't really have a side-kick. Her boss Cece helps her, but mostly they're in different scenes. The love story moves along faster, which I liked because, hey, we're on #15 with Plum and there's still no final pick between Joe and Ranger. I'm sure it's part of the Stephanie Plum charm, but I don't need all my comedy-mysteries to last that long. I really liked all the characters and secondary characters of Causey's series. For me, Cam and Trevor are some of the most smoking Alpha males I've seen in cozy/romance mysteries.

I would recommend Causey's Bobbie Faye books to Stephanie Plum fans. There are enough differences that you don't have to choose between who wrote it better. I also recommend that you read the Bobbie Faye books in order. There are references from the second novel that gets wrapped up in the third. No cliff hangers though, they all end nice and complete. If you haven't read a Stephanie Plum novel, all I ask is, what are you waiting for? LOL...I absolutely love that series, particularly the first eight. If you've read both, check out Lisa Lutz's Spellman series. That one will keep you rolling and wanting more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Bobbie Faye goodness, July 28, 2010
This review is from: When a Man Loves a Weapon (Bobbie Faye, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is spectacular. There is non stop action. It is funny, witty, smart and you just fall in love with all the characters. I love these characters so much. I wish I knew a Bobbie Faye because life would never be dull. LOL

You will want to read the first 2 books to be sure you get where "When a Man Love a Weapon" takes off from.
The first book is "Charmed and Dangerous". Literally a page turner. It is hard to believe the entire book is one day! That's how action packed it is.

The second book is "Girls Just Wanna Have Guns". This book has an awesome plot and once again a page turner. You will giggle and fall in love with this series. After reading the second book, I could not wait for the third book.

I hope Toni McGee Causey keeps writing these Bobbie Faye stories because quite frankly we all need a little Bobbie Faye (and Trevor :) ) in our lives!!

I just wished that this was on Kindle.

This review is from: When a Man Loves a Weapon (Bobbie Faye, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a real hoot. Suspend reality, bad guys get it, a few laughs, but at the same time a journey to deep emotional enlightenment for the main character. I actually hope this is the last in the series because things wrapped up so well for Bobbie Faye. If there is a sequel, I hope Cam finds peace and love. Did anyone else notice that the quotes at the top of each chapter? The names of other authors were used for the characters to whom the quotes were attributed. A cute and clever touch.

5.0 out of 5 stars zany out of control Cajun crime caper, August 5, 2009
This review is from: When a Man Loves a Weapon (Bobbie Faye, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
In Lake Charles, Louisiana life is good if you ask Bobbie Faye Sumrall in spite of her last fiasco (see GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE GUNS). FBI agent Trevor Cormier asked her to marry him and she accepted. Being engaged is more than a hoot though she wished she knew a bit more about her fiancé's current assignment.

Trevor leaves town on FBI business, but to keep Bobbie Faye from having one of her notorious very bad bad bad days as he will be gone for three days, he leaves her under the care of what he calls a bodyguard; she calls that person an adult babysitter. Five days later, Trevor fails to return to Bobby Faye. Worried about him she turns to her former boyfriend detective Cameron Moreau to find him even as killer Sean MacGreggor is coming for Bobbie Faye.

WHEN A MAN LOVES A WEAPON is once again a zany out of control Cajun crime caper that hooks the audience from the moment five days go by as Bobby Faye has alligators up her butt with concern for her fiancé. The story line is fast-paced and filled with gators, swamps, bad dudes, and betting eccentrics (wagering on Bobby Faye survivalist) who make for a wild frolic. However, it is Bobby Faye's optimistic fortitude in the face of another Very (Very, Very, Very) Bad week that has fans wanting more of her Lake Charles thrillers as once again she affirms you can't keep a good woman down especially since she bets on herself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch out, Bobby Faye's at it again--and aren't we lucky!, August 20, 2009
By
This review is from: When a Man Loves a Weapon (Bobbie Faye, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Bobbie Faye has graduated from a run-down trailer (it drowned) to a new home with her hunky FBI agent fiancé, Trevor Cormier. They're just getting settled into living together when Trevor is given a new assignment. It's only for three days, but there are some very bad guys with itchy trigger fingers looking to settle an old score with Bobbie Faye, so Trevor isn't going to leave her without protection.

Trevor's idea of keeping Bobbie Faye safe is to call on (without her knowledge) an old friend of his, Berneke Rilestone (Riles) to babysit. To say that mixing Bobbie Faye with the likes of Riles would be like a good day gone really badly would be an understatement. But since it's only three days, Bobbie Faye decided to cooperate, sort of. But when three days stretches into a week without hearing from Trevor, and Bobbie Fay's runs out of colors to paint and repaint the house, and shooting Riles is looking better all the time, she decides to take matter into her own hands. Now that can only be the prelude to disaster.

Bobbie Faye enlists her former boyfriend and a local detective, Cam and Riles to help her track Trevor. The rest is glorious history complete with Bobbie Faye sinking a boat. A BIG boat!

Toni McGee Causey is the funniest writer I have ever read. Her prose is crisp and takes twists, turns and deep dips that make the roller coaster ride one you don't want to end. Her characters are quirky and sometimes over the top, but that makes reading her novels all the better. She reminds me of Janet Evanovich but is funnier.

Armchair Interviews says: All three Bobbie Faye books are must reads.

This review is from: When a Man Loves a Weapon (Bobbie Faye, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have been waiting for this book to come out since I finished reading the previous two books and I am so glad that it's finally here!

From the first page, the story captured me with how progressed Trevor and Bobbie Faye's relationship was and how even with a psycho killer (Sean) after Bobbie Faye, she still has time to give Riles a hard time.

This book is filled with emotions from many of the characters and it goes into the dynamics of the relationships between all of them and gives us great insight in why they acted the way they did in this book and in the previous other books.

Bobbie Faye doesn't disappoint and her "babysitter" Riles is a hoot, but sometimes I wanted to bean him over the head for some of the things he says to Bobbie Faye - not fair!

Overall, if you loved the other two Bobbie Faye books, this is a MUST-READ! I'm so happy with the ending of this book - I sure hope that there's a fourth book in the works because I'm hooked and can't wait to see what happens next!

This review is from: When a Man Loves a Weapon (Bobbie Faye, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Just because I've actually been to Contraband Days doesn't mean I'm biased. This book was tons of fun to read. Totally witty, loads of action, and some sizzle on top. I especially recommend this for LSU fans! Granted, we're talking total suspension of reality, but that's WHY I read. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The one we've been waiting for., August 4, 2009
This review is from: When a Man Loves a Weapon (Bobbie Faye, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the Bobbie Faye book everyone has been waiting for, where all the potential comes together in one frenzied, hot, hysterically funny climax. Things that have been hinted at burst into full-blown 3-D. Relationships that have tugged at our hearts are now in full bloom, with all the angst, tenderness and high octane heat we've hoped for.

This is the book we've been waiting to read, and it fulfills our expectations.

Go. Buy. Read. Love. Enjoy!
