Age Appropriate help for grasping mental illness,
By Mary Kay Klim "Marykay" (wishing for Middle Earth, but in NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: When Mommy Is Sick (Hardcover)
As a seller, I don't writing many reviews, but this book really caught my eye. When I first saw the title, I thought it had to do w/ physical illnesses - breast cancer or some other serious medical issue.
Instead, it tackles the tough world of illnesses that aren't as visible as others, mental illnesses. The young girl narrates how she feels, missing mom, how others help out, but it's not the same, and how it is to visit mom. Dad is an integral part of the story too. Most importantly, Mom does come home and they are able to pick up their loving relationship again. Well written, good illustrations, not overly technical, but understanding and understandable. A well done book, and thanks to the writer, illustrator and publisher for doing a sensitive job on a difficult subject. Marykay

When Mommy is Sick,
By
This review is from: When Mommy Is Sick (Hardcover)
My daughter was to go into a hospital for hip surgery, so to prepare her 5 year old daughter for the separation, I sent her this book. It was my grandchild's favorite for many nights, and allowed her to discuss the operation and hospital stay with her parents, to settle any fears she may have. My daughter stated that this book allowed the operation to became a family event, as they all shared with honest feelings about the seriousness of the operation, and the hospital stay. I myself was delighted with the prompt way my order was handled, for within three days, the books were delivered and being read.
