5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best, February 29, 2008

This review is from: When New York Was Irish: Songs & Tunes by Terence Winch (Audio CD)
One of the best Irish American bands ever. Terry Winch is a natural song writer. I come back to the cd again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Choice for Irish American Music, October 23, 2008
This review is from: When New York Was Irish: Songs & Tunes by Terence Winch (Audio CD)
This is as good and as authentic as it gets when you're looking for Irish American music--not to mention song lyrics. I've been a fan of Terence Winch's work for a good many years, and this collection shows that he and his musical colleagues (in particular, the REAL Celtic Thunder) have this music in their bloodstream. For a transfusion, get a copy of this album, and try to find copies of Celtic Thunder's three original CDs. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The standard to which all traditional musicians should aspire, November 2, 2008

This review is from: When New York Was Irish: Songs & Tunes by Terence Winch (Audio CD)
Terence Winch, the ORIGINAL Celtic Thunder, and the Narrowbacks are the standard to which all traditional musicians should aspire. "When New York Was Irish" includes a bunch of my favorites from Celtic Thunder's previous CDs (Celtic Thunder, In Light of Other Days, and Hard New York Days) as well as new material with the Narrowbacks.

Also, check out Terence's poetry in "The Drift of Things" and "Boy Drinkers" and his stories in "That Special Place." Take your time with each piece and savor them like a Sunday afternoon that you never want to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Irish Memories, April 2, 2010

This review is from: When New York Was Irish: Songs & Tunes by Terence Winch (Audio CD)
If you are an Irish-American who grew up in the New York area during the fifties or sixties, there is no way to listen to the title cut without crying.
The rest of the CD is an eclectic mix of instrumentals and vocals- all are well done

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Best for a New York born Irish American, May 23, 2012

I have enjoyed this CD so much that I have purchased additional copies as gift items. Most of the tunes resonate with those raised in the Bronx who "vacationed" in Rockaway. Great tunes, great lrics about people, places and relationships...all poignant. Two comedic ditties as well, one bursts into great ceili music. Buy it and spread the word....great gift item for all Bronxites.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice collection of Irish songs and instrumentals, March 27, 2012
This review is from: When New York Was Irish: Songs & Tunes by Terence Winch (Audio CD)
I have been Lightning to this new cd from CELTIC THUNDER for a few days now and I am enjoying it immensely. The lyrics to the ballads are nostalgic and emotional. But there is also a lot of humor and joviality as one would hope for in an Irish band.
The ensemble playing is not always perfect and the intonation wanders at times but not enough to detract from the over-all loveliness of the recording. My favorite song on this cd is SAINTS or (hard New York days), most likely because it was the only one I had never heard before and it is a lovely waltz. Buy this cd and you will see what I mean.
