Editorial Reviews

Another lost gem for lovers of Japanese psych and hard rock, this time from the inspirational ‘70s prog outfit, Strawberry Path. From its extremely cool front cover to the last track, this is an album that will appeal to garage fans, psych heads, mondo music lovers and acid freaks alike, merging as it does a variety of Western influences, ranging from Jimi Hendrix (check out Shigeru Narumo’s hard psych guitar) to Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. Originally relased in 1971, Strawberry Path were the forerunners of Japanese Flied Egg, one of the most influential Japanese prog bands to emerge in the ‘70s. This is hard psych rock at its best, and an album which has soared in value over the last few years. Highly collectable and highly listenable. Radio Active. 2005.

4.0 out of 5 stars Far Eastern Ghost Of Hendrix, September 28, 2007
This review is from: When the Raven Has Come to Earth (Audio CD)

I stumbled across an amazing haunting Strawberry Path song on the radio last December and was intrigued enough to investigate further to establish who, where, what they were all about. Purchased this LP on import and one pre- Xmas Saturday afternoon it popped through the letter box. I was in the middle of decorating an apartment so cellophane off and into the CD player, cranked up the volume and carried about my business in another room. Slowly the tracks grew and grew in both momentum and complexity and so with jaw dropping awe I stood brush in hand between the two speakers listening to this gem unfold. So many influences dip in and out across the record- Hendrix, Cream, May Blitz and even Japanese opera. Its an amazing LP and how its remained hidden and un touted for thirty odd years is as mysterious and the LP content. Alf

3.0 out of 5 stars Not essential, but not at all bad...., June 1, 2007
By
This review is from: When the Raven Has Come to Earth (Audio CD)
This is a somewhat obscure hard rock release from the 70's.Guitars are kinda Hendrix like, for point of reference. Some of the dudes from (also) Japanese band Flied Egg appear on here first. Some of these tracks where re-worked into Flied Egg songs later,so its kinda cool to hear their "genesis" on this disc.

This music is somewhat dated to the time it was recorded,so how much you obsess over 70's-era hard rock will determine how much your gonna dig this.If you worship 70's proto-metal Hard Rock, you should probably add a star to my rating..

3.0 out of 5 stars CHARMING, February 21, 2007
This review is from: When the Raven Has Come to Earth (Audio CD)
I must admit my expectations were high after reading the reviews concerning this release.
However, I don't agree with these reviewers. Both music and lyrics I found to be quite boring. The vocalist wasn't that good either.
The rest of the guys proved to be rather talented though.
So therefore I find this being more charming than enjoyable. This having in mind that Japan didn't have a big rock scene at that time.
