This was the first deicide cd i brought and it serves as an excellent introduction to the band. Right from the first legendary riff of "when satan rules his world" the incendry power of this recording hits home. The instruments are mixed to such perfection that the recording creates an alomst mellow feel of unison amidst the chaos - effortlessly changing form crushingly fast to insanely catchy slow riffs. Benton displays incredible vocal diversity occasionaly varying the usual, deep, rich tone with screaming vocals. Some have criticised his voice - i however regard his voice to be at its finest here, the tone is perfect (somewhere lower than corpsegrinder fishers' yet higher than barnes'. In my opinion this album contains the best death metal voice ever. The Hoffman brothers turn out an incredibly tight musical performance - the solos are incredibly musical, (just listen to once upon the cross) based on musical scales. Steve Ashiem pounds out devastating beats and fills, never dominating too much with excessive blast beats.This is complimented by Benton's incredible bass playing. The actual sound of this album is extremely strong. I would say possibly the best ever for a live album. You can hardly tell the album is live at all except for Benton's one time reference to the crowd of "thank you for turning out" and the odd "deicide" chant breaking out in between songs. I strongly recommend this album to new Deicide fans. If u are not listening to deicide because of their image u really are missing out on one of the best Death metal bands ever. You don't have to agree with the lyrics to like the music (like me) - they just represent a viewpoint. To think that Benton didn't want to do this album! This is THE album to play to your Marilyn Manson worshipping firends - play it loud and laugh!

The heaviness, the brutallity, the pulse pounding adrenaline, it's all here. Guitarists Eric and Brian Hoffman, drummer Steve Asheim, and vocalist/bassist Glen Benton are running the show. My only complaint is there's only one song from the band's second album Legion, and that song being Dead But Dreaming, but this album still has plenty of their classic songs (via Roadrunner days). Deicide's music is great regardless of their lyrics, and I think every death metal fan should own this album. DEAD BY DAWN!

This was 8/4/98, if I remember. I have the ticket stub somewhere. No mention of any recording was made. The crowd sang along to every verse, and was quite loud. For some reason, that was cut out of the record. Benton's vocals at the actual performance were louder and clearer, don't know why they seem muddied on the cd. He didn't really talk at all, just hammered out one song after another. They left off a few songs from Serpents, they played the whole album. I should have my original review from 98 around somewhere. It's a decent live disc, and the guitars have a real cool tone, it's just disappointing compared to what I saw and heard at the actual show.

For f***s sake! Live albums are live albums!! I'm a DM fan but I don't just listen to DM. And I say that the DM genre has put out some quality, butt kicking live albums!

And the proof is in those live releases from Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creation, Cryptopsy and this effort from Deicide!

It's not going to sound exactly like the studio recording, it's not going to sound exactly like the live gig ... it's going to sound like, well ... a live album!

I myself like live albums and this is a great example by any standards. True fans should have both the studio and the live stuff ...

P.S. DM Bass lines are notoriously difficult to put through on any type of album, so there's nothing new there! And there's nothing wrong with Benton's vocals on this album ...

This is another favorite album in my Deicide collection. I brought is in the fall of 1998. I've listened to Deicide before but I've never seen or heard them live. I already had all their records. So there was no reason who I shouldn't get this album. So I got it at a Camelot Music store and I listened to it all the way home on my CD walkman and I enjoyed the hell of of it.

Now for my review. This is Deicide's first live album. It was done live at the International House Of Blues. With album, you will hear Deicide like you never heard them before. The intensity, heavines, brutality, aggression and evil is all here. The production and sound is a little in the vain of Serpents Of The Light since it was during the Serpents Of The Light tour but it's really good. The album also has a lot of the classics and some of the new tunes from Serpents Of The Light. The only problem is that there's not too many songs off of Legion. There's only Dead But Dreaming but the album is still good no doubt. It's Deicide at their best. Some of the best songs here are When Satan Rules His World, Bastards Of Christ, Dead But Dreaming, Children Of The Underworld, Serpents Of The Light, Believe The Lie, Oblivious To Evil, Father Bakers', Dead By Dawn and Sacrificial Suicide. Buy this album and find out what it's like when Satan lives.

A Deicide Live album - who would've guessed ! But considering I grew up with my Slayer 'Decade of Aggression - Live' tapes wearing out my walkman batteries I was quite interested in it and picked it up recently. Basically the thing that hit me is the fact that these guys can play these songs live, and so well !! 'Musicianship' is the word that everyone uses and I can't think of a better one(!), its just amazing that they can maintain that energy and power. Benton's vocals come across well enough, and depending on personal tastes, you can tweak your sound system if you like to hear it different - In terms of a comparison - the Slayer live album is quite similar in mode and delivery. One thing that would've been cool would be hearing some crowd interaction, but we don't hear much from Benton except for song introductions...no big deal though. The only thing left on the Deicide wish list is a DVD

I really do not understand how several so called fans of Deicide can be so dissappointed with this album. I have heard several other live thrash/death albums (Slayer's, Morbid Angel's and Cannibal Corpse's), and this one is on par, if not superior to those in sound quality and mix. On Slayer's "Decade..." the vocals and drums are often more buried than they are on this cd, yet I hear no one complaining about it. Hey, this is Death Metal. To me, this album is well mixed, the vocals are right on, the guitars are pummeling as are the drums, and the bass is not quite there, but it's also not completely absent. The song selection is quite good, thankfully not leaning too heavily on their newest cd at the time "Serpents of the Light", which to me, is their weakest to date. One other so called fan dared to say that Benton's vocals "do not fit the music"! How dare you then call yourself a Deicide fan?!? His vocals on this cd are the same vocals he has employed on all Deicide releases up to that point. This cd is pure, unrelenting energy from start to finish, with as great a sound as you are likely to find for ANY live Metal album. Period.

Anyone who is familiar with live death metal albums know that the majority of them sound noisy and reckless. This however almost sounds as good as their recent studio recordings. Great mixing was accomplished between each instrument and the crowd. Anyone who has not seen Deicide live will recognize how tight and talented they are during their performance. A no nonsense album shredding from one hellish masterpiece to the next! One of the few bands who know exactly what there doing. Excellent (live) album!!

I 've seen Deicide live last June and a I was totally blown away by their performance, so I was eagerly waiting for this live album to be released and what I can say is: AAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!! A must have CD for both Deicide freaks and all those who want a fine slab of brutal metal music played live. The bands' performance is excellent, the selection of tracks is also good and simply you can't afford to miss this release!! No lord shall stand before myself.....

Deicide are not a musically talented band to begin with so the lack of production and quality on this album does not help them. Redundant boring songs, all sounding the same over and over with bad quality sound......waste of cash!
