More About the Author

Hello! My name is Cecil Murphey, but everyone just calls me 'Cec.'

I have written dozens of books on a variety of topics with an emphasis on Spiritual Growth, Christian Living, and Caregiving. In these books, I share my personal experiences as I strive to be closer to God and to seek his will for me.

My passion is to stimulate people's minds and nourish their souls. Since 1984, I've used my writing to help me accomplish those goals. My first book came off the press in 1975. I now write between three and four books a year in addition to contributing regular columns in many publications. To date I've published more than 100 books and more than 600 articles.

I've started to move into fiction and you can expect to see novels under my name beginning in 2007.

When I write, I have the opportunity to share my faith and my spiritual growth with others. My nonfiction books are based on my personal experiences'experiences that have been enhanced and developed by meeting people just like you.

As a ghostwriter, I sometimes take other people's materials and write books for them. Some carried my name'others did not. (Ghostwriters are often noted with the word 'with' below the author's name). Why do I ghostwrite? It is rewarding for me to help others tell their stories of inspiration and growth. For example, when I see and hear from readers of 90 Minutes in Heaven and they describe the peace they now have after losing a loved one, I am gratified to be a part of telling that story.

I have had the opportunity to be a caregiver and work with a number of other caregivers for their loved ones. It's a difficult, but rewarding commitment. When you are dealing with challenges of Alzheimer's Disease, depression, or substance abuse in your family, it can be a time that stretches you personally and tries your faith.

Stop by my web site. Drop me an e-mail. I'd love to hear from you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A balm for the weary caregiver, September 4, 2004

When Someone You Love Has Alzheimer's by Cecil Murphey should be given by every physician in America to each person who learns the news that someone they love has Alzheimer's. Profound in its simplicity.

When Someone You Love Has Alzheimer's is a comforting message of hope for those caregivers and other family members who deal with years of losing a loved one through this insidious disease. Divided into seven sections , this book is designed to give daily encouragement of less than a page. This is important for the caregiver with an already too full place. What I love about this book is the conversational tone that sounds like Cecil and the reader are sitting over a cup of coffee while chatting about a common challenge.

This book doesn't try and fix something, but it does comfort, educate, and let the reader know they are not alone in their struggles. Most of all it lets the reader know that through it all God is there for them. I've added it to my short list of recommended books, not only for those dealing with Alzheimer's, but for anyone caring for someone with a related dementia.

I bought this book for my Grandma to gain encouragement from when she's dealing with my Grandpa and his dementia. She really likes it and my mom said that she has seen her cry often while reading it. It is broken up into sections based on the progression of the disease. At the top of each page is a Bible verse, then a short story or encouraging word, and at the bottom there is a short prayer. It's helped my Grandma and she does get encouragement from it. My mom read most of it too while she was visiting and she said it was good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Encouragement, December 20, 2006

Cecil Murphey's "When Someone You Love Has Alzheimer's" is exactly what it claims to be -- a source of daily encouragement. It offers honest and open feelings along with a sense of companionship by recognizing that we are not alone in having those feelings. It gives Scriptures to remind us of God's presence and provision, and a short prayer to focus our attention on the One who can provide all we need -- whatever that may be for the day or situation. Ideas and adjustments for coping are given that offer hope...

I highly recommend this devotional book for anyone who is on the journey of caring for someone with Alzheimer's or related diseases. It would be a wonderful gift of encouragement.
