This review is from: When Someone Has a Very Serious Illness: Children Can Learn to Cope with Loss and Change (Paperback)
This is a good supplement, especially when working with children and adolescents. It works well with younger children, and can be adapted for adolescents. It gives the child a different way to learn and communicate the changes they are experiencing, and as a therapist I've been able to build on that to better assist my clients. I have several of the Heegaard books and i've found all of them useful in that way.

Workbooks covering difficult topics can be effective for some children. Visiting a hospital can be intimidating to adults, it can be terrifying to a child. This workbook has helped young children to begin the process of visiting a loved one who has been seriously injured or who is seriously ill. It helps children who aren't willing to talk about their feelings to express them through writing or drawing.
