3.0 out of 5 stars Friends Sequel
The first book I read of Joylynn Jossel was The Root of All Evil. This was an excellent read that left me waiting for the sequel to be released. This book the sequel explains how Klarke Taylor was able to get an early release from jail and find her way back to Reo Laroque. Unfortunately that is pretty much all that was in the about the main characters from the first...

Best friends Klarke, Breezy and Jeva are back in this long awaited sequel to "Root of All Evil".

Klarke has served four long years in prison for a murder she didn't commit. Now that someone has confessed to the murder she has been released. Klarke is saddened by the sudden turn of events that has lead to her freedom. She learns that her ex husband has married his bitchy baby's mother Meka and set up house with Klarke's youngest child! Oh hell no!!! With the support of Jeva and kick-ass Breezy, Klarke finds the strength to rise from her near depression and fight for what's rightfully hers.

Breezy still has that "fly ass mouth" and that tough attitude but is still grieving her father's death. When love comes knocking at her door in the shape of an old flame, Breezy opens up and lets him in...but at what cost?

Jeva is still hoping to find her biological parents. She meets someone who she is drawn to and confides in her, but little does she know that their accidental meeting is part of an even bigger plot that leads to an angry emotional confrontation.

A roller coaster of events, bring forth some shocking revelations that brings this story to a dramatic conclusion. I went through a lot of emotions reading this book. Shock, disbelief, laughter and sadness and I can't count how many times I shouted "Oh no she didn't!!!"

Reader's you are in for one sweet treat. This is the type of story you wanna stop every few chapters and tell somebody!!
Although this is a sequel, there is no guessing about what happened in the previous book. Those new to Joylynn's work aren't left in the dark; she does an excellent job in recapping important details about each character.
Joylynn has captured a special chemistry between these friends and has masterfully turned it into another best seller!

_____FUNNY, EMOTIONAL, INTRIGING AND BEST OF ALL DRAMA! JOYLYNN HAS OUT DONE HERSELF WITH THIS ONE IT'S HER BEST WORK TO DATE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, February 9, 2006
This review is from: When Souls Mate (Paperback)
This book picks up where her other book,"The Root of All Evil" left off; In jail for a crime she didn't commit, she is found to be innocent and released from jail to her splintered family; Her daughter is now in jail herself for the same crime; her son is torn by a dream he couldn't remember and Reo has moved on with his dead baby's momma, who is not as cracked up as she claims to be; With Klarke out of jail, things come to a serious head, and ends on a bit of an unsettling note; for one, More details on Breezy and her mom; the stuff about Jeeva and her child's parentage should have been brought to light; OK, it would had had some folks mad, but still, let it out; Then the info about Cissy, Tionne and Harris' "child" is brought into play as well; Interesting book;

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG!, April 14, 2007

Reo and Klarke are back! I fell in love with these characters in THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL and couldn't wait for the sequel. I was by no means disappointed. The very end turned slightly fairytalish, but that didn't take away from this great book. Excellent follow-up. Joylynn is an extremely talented and gifted storyteller.

5.0 out of 5 stars The first two books I have read for entertainment purposes in its entirety!!!!!!!!, July 2, 2007
This review is from: When Souls Mate (Paperback)
A friend of mine passed The Root of All Evil along to me and it took me month to pick it up to read. But once I started and finished it, I went online and purchsed When Souls Mate the very same day. (my first book purchase ever) I was dreaming about the characters until I got the second book, and I finished it within 24 hours. I enjoyed reading every page of both books. Now I have a circle friends reading and I am dying to wait for their responses. I did a lot of laughing, and she almost brought me to tears. I am still in shock about the identity of Heather's real father. (I won't tell you about it, please read both books)

4.0 out of 5 stars Chocked Full of Skeletons, June 3, 2006
This review is from: When Souls Mate (Paperback)
As Klarke Taylor walks through the prison gates one final time, the taste of freedom is bittersweet. Vaughn, the daughter that Klarke would go to any extreme to protect is soon to take her place behind bars. Best friends, Breezy and Jeva are there with Klarke's family to greet her and their support might help Klarke keep it together as she picks up the pieces of her life.
"When Souls Mate," is a story of cover-ups, skeletons, and betrayal. Although not told in the tone of a situation comedy, it reminds me of one, where the characters sacrifice themselves first and ask questions last.
Initially it seems as if there are conflicts in what is being told so much so that it jeopardizes the story's integrity. Like Vaughn was described as being a tough through and through, `don't give a care' individual but when confronted by her instructor, Sister Beasley, she is unnerved and at one point crumbled emotionally. At times, Vaughn and --Klarke's ex-husband's new wife--Meka just did not come across as `true to life' and it seems the author was depicting characters that she really did not understand or could relate to. Following my initial impression, I found that Ms. Jossel is a writer adept at holding the readers attention with strong dialogue that reveals much about the characters. The story has a varied pace that keeps it moving along and contains a few plot twists and turns; some are more believable than others. Overall, the story is entertaining and I would suggest it to anyone looking for a read with plenty going on to sink their teeth into.

I really enjoyed this sequel to "Th Root Of All Evil". The book had a lot of unexpected twists and turns. I was glad things worked out for Klarke. I wanted to reach into the pages of this book and slap Meka b/c she was one ignorant chick! It was sad about Breezy and I'm glad Jeva got a chance to know her blood family members. I look forwards Ms. Jossel's next novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reunited Souls (4.5 stars), March 26, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: When Souls Mate (Paperback)
Joylynn Jossel has finally returned to give her fans the conclusion to The Root of All Evil with it's long anticipated sequel When Souls Mates. Readers of the first book will remember that the main character Klarke made the ultimate sacrifice confessing to a crime she didn't commit to protect her daughter. Now that the truth comes out Klarke is released from prison four years later and attempts to put the pieces of her life back together.

Joylynn masterly weaves the story together so that even if you hadn't read the first book you could still follow along and be truly entertained. I especially loved the growth of the characters, Breezy and Jeva in particular. But all through the book readers will be rooting for Klarke and Reo to re-unite, the title suggests that they will but a lot has happened in four years and nothing worth having is ever easily attained.

When Souls Mate is a drama filled roller coaster ride. The only reason I took away a 1/2 star is that I did wish that more time was spent with Klarke and Reo once they finally reconciled. And there was a major secret revealed to readers and the book ended without it coming out. But all that withstanding When Souls Mate is an excellent read and an extraordinary sequel.

I indeed thought that this was a good book. Ms. Jossel has a way of capturing a reader and drawing you in. This is a must read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I recommend this book to everyone!!!!!!! As other readers have stated, she does a good job retelling alot of details about the characters that were in the book prior to this one. However I pretty much knew how the book would end after reading the first several chapters, but would have liked the ending to have been more dramatic.
