friends of logging railroads
very interesting photos of these well-known logging railroads in California. I`ve seen many books, but here we have an excellent collection and high-quality pictures of the logging theme. Good ideas for model railroaders to create the own timber & logging layout. This book is a must have.

When Steam Was King
Unless you are intrested in the Pickering Lumber Co. there is not much new in this book. The Ferrell books on the Westside are far superior than the chapter in this book. The Sierra section is mainly a rehash and you will have seen many of the photos before. Hard to say how accurate the rosters are as at least one locomotive was left off the Sierra listing. Lots of white...

Yes, it's expensive...but this book is worth every penny. I own around 1000 railroad titles, and this is in the top ten....OK the top five! If you have any interest at all in the Sierra, West Side, or Pickering operations, by all means buy this book! The photos are first rate, and the information is priceless. HIGHLY recommended.

Lots of white showing on the pages as there is not too much "meat". It does, however, cover the current status of the lines, up to about 2005.
