5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly informative and well-written book, June 21, 2006

Before I read this book, all I knew about the Middle East and terrorism was what I saw on the news, the Daily Show, and heard on NPR. Sanitized, glossed-over, and heavily-spun. In other words, I was pretty clueless and very confused.

After reading this book, I actually understand how the world got into the situation it's in, what role our country played in it and - most importantly - what I can do to help to protect myself and my family.

We're not getting this information anywhere else. It's scary, disturbing and eye opening, but I'd rather know it than not know it (that whole forewarned is forearmed thing).

The book is very scholarly, but also very readable - and does not represent either political side (which I like).

Definitely worth the money and time to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An overdue analysis of the threats we face, October 9, 2006

This book contains insights and information far above what we are going to get from television or the newspapers. Col Riffini is on time and on target and the depth of knowledge he brings to this issue far exceeds anything else that I have read. The events of recent days (I write this on 9 Oct 06) proves that his analysis is correct. This is a must read for those who want to educate themselves with respect to the war on terror and the dangers that we and our children will face far into the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye opening must read!, August 2, 2006
This review is from: When Terror Comes to Main Street: A Citizens' Guide to Terror Awareness, Preparedness, and Prevention (Paperback)
THis book is a must read given the current state of our world with respect to the war on terror. It is educational and informative. Prior to reading it, I was unaware as to how the Islamist movement originated and why the hatred exists. Now it is all too clear. This book will also make you realize how ill-prepared we, as common citizens, are when it comes to terror awareness and prevention. The authos has a direct, informative style and his knowledge in this area is unequalled. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Punchy and Readable, June 21, 2006
This review is from: When Terror Comes to Main Street: A Citizens' Guide to Terror Awareness, Preparedness, and Prevention (Paperback)
Thousands of books have been written about terrorism, but few for the American people. Ruffini has written a very readable book aimed at the average reader, hard-hitting in its commitment to doing something about terrorism on an individual level because we can't completely rely on the government to protect us.
The title tells us that terrorists are not going to limit themselves to high-profile targets such as theWEorld Trade Center, but are bound to hit Main Street sooner or later. This is the theme of the book. Everyone is a potential target.
Ruffini lists about 600 terrorist organizations in one chapter of his book. This points up the seriousness and the many facets of the problem.
The author explores ways in which Americans can do something to help themselves, from reporting suspicious behavior to preparing individual escape kits. The advice is simple and practical, and Ruffini stresses the urgency of being prepared.
Overall, this book is easy to understand, and worth reading for every American concerned with terrorism and hoow it might affect him or her personally.

Col. Ruffini uses plain, simple language. With his clear organization Joe keeps the reader from being lost in tangents.
He tells you what the terror threat to America is. He does it completely and economically.

5.0 out of 5 stars When Terror Comes to Main St., June 22, 2006
This review is from: When Terror Comes to Main Street: A Citizens' Guide to Terror Awareness, Preparedness, and Prevention (Paperback)
Excellent. Most people stumble on topics/issues they have little knowledge or experience in. In this book, Col. Ruffini details the danger of terror, our lack of preparedness and what we can do to combat it in a clear, detailed but yet easy to understand format. He brings clarity to what the real and immediate dangers are and why we must not ignore them. The book is attention-grabing, informative and keeps your interest from beginning to end. This book will speak to those will very little knowledge of the subject as well as those in the know. A must read.

This review is from: When Terror Comes to Main Street: A Citizens' Guide to Terror Awareness, Preparedness, and Prevention (Paperback)
A long overdue review of the real threat we face. Col. Ruffini has done a great job on research and has substantive recommendations to counter these threats for first responders and the general public. Good read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tell It Like It Is, June 23, 2006
This review is from: When Terror Comes to Main Street: A Citizens' Guide to Terror Awareness, Preparedness, and Prevention (Paperback)
Joe Ruffini is known as an "Information Warrior" in both the US Government and the private sector. To everyone's benefit in homes and companies across the United States, he has compiled his thoughts in print about the complexities of the threat and the need for daily awareness by citizens at all levels. The book is a "must read" and I strongly recommend it!!
