Hildie Thompson is an eternal optimist, but even her indomitable sense of humour is shaken when war is declared. June Gadsby was born in Felling, Tyne & Wear, into a mining family. Her first love has always been writing, though she is also an accomplished artist. She loves to cook, read and listen to music. She now lives in Gascony, south-west France with her photographer husband, Brian, and her miniature Yorkshire terrier, Candy. Robert Hale also published her previous novel The Iron Master.
