This review is from: When Too Much Isn't Enough: Ending the Destructive Cycle of AD/HD and Addictive Behavior (Paperback)
Wendy Richardson once again writes an imformative and helpful book about AD/HD and addiction. This book delves deep into addictive behaviors that many adults with AD/HD face. This book isn't just about well known addictions like drugs and gambling. It discusses every day things like shopping, food, and the internet. Wendy also provides helpful ways to deal with AD/HD and addictive behaviors.

I see the devastating effects of AD/HD and addiction every day in my private psychotherapy practice. The GREAT NEWS is: THERE IS HOPE! Wendy Richardson presents crucial information about the connections between AD/HD and addictive behaviors (not just drugs and alcohol) in an easy read that is both enlightening and encouraging. This book presents the perfect balance between scientific facts and gentle words of encouragement. Ms. Richardson is very clear in making certain that the reader is not left with just information about the connection between AD/HD and addictive behaviors. She also provides the reader with valuable, "ready to use today," suggestions of what can be done right now to start the healing process. "When Too Much Is Not Enough" is the book to read - for individuals struggling with addiction, their family members, and everyone in the helping professions.

Wendy Richardson needs to find a larger audience for her work - the information is invaluable. This is one of my favorite books of all time. I have bought extra copies to give away to people in the field that need to understand the link between biology and addiction. 6 stars... BRAVO!!!!

When I read the first few chapters of this book I found that I had to keep on reading. I finally found the answers to many of my long standing problems. I found this book to be easy to read and understand, for me that was a miracle for I find most self help books hard to use. Thank you Wendy Richardson.

I read through this book in about an afternoon. The author does a fabulous job of telling you what parts you need to read and which you don't, depending on what type of AD/HD you have and what possible addictions you may also have. In addition she presents the information very clearly and includes a lot of information not discussed in detail elsewhere.

Wendy Richardson has long been a popular speaker at ADHD conferences. She is energetic, tells great stories, and knows this topic like no one else.
For all the "self-medicating" behaviors in this country, it's amazing to me that this book isn't required reading in high school -- or at least entry-level psychology classes. Then again, I think that's true for most good books that explain the very common but all-too-misunderstood lifespan condition called Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. This book, however, stands out for its focus on the reasons that unrecognized ADHD and addictions go too often hand in hand. Read this book, and you will have a new paradigm for understanding why people get stuck in these destructive cycles -- and knowing how they can stop the cycle.

So I have known that I have been ADD for a long time and was just coping with it. I have even had this book for a long time but only got through a bit of it in my no book reading ADD behavior. Much much later I ended up sitting and down and reading it and realizing because I was already going through a no drinking period and I also quit smoking cigarettes that my real need wasn't in checking out like I always thought but more that I didn't have enough healthy things to check myself into on a daily basis. The funny thing about it is that by realizing this need to stay interested or in an activity made me actually like the idea of reading because it is no longer about staying active in the best activity (video games) but in any interesting activity and I of course listen with my favorite music, Techno.
For all you ADD people out there, get this book because it helped me realize that my compulsion to addictions can be actually turned into beneficial behavior. Scott, Real person age 28, benefited

I bought this book to learn more due to my recent discovery of my husband's hidden use of Meth (diagnosed with ADD). The first few chapters were like reading about my husband. I hope now that he has the book and away from home, he finds himself...and not too late. :(
