It's like a metal/emo/hardcore/progressive/pop compilation, November 23, 2005
This band has an odd identity. They seem generic at first look, but a close listen will reveal something much greater. These guys aren't just an underoath/static lullaby knockoff. You can listen to this EP and see that. There's so much stuff done on here that's never been done for this kind of music. It's almost like screamo vocals and guitar meets hardcore drumming. I love it. Many will label this as sketchy run-around hardcore that fails to deliver but that's probably just them failing to be able to realize how much originality really exists here.
The variety of musical element's YR uses is astounding. Metal, emo, hardcore, pop, progressive ect... That's only a few, but you get the point. On top of all that though, the production is cleaner than a baby's bottom. It sounds very close to overdone but fortunately this kind of music can take the heat.
One sad part though, is the fact that it sounds like what it is. (A bunch of genres put together into a sound the band likes) yeah sure, the riffs are sickly, and the songs are all rich in variation...but there's nothin here I haven't heard before in on form or another. It's almost like buying a quick compalation of all the genres listed above. The fact is, YR has no sound of their own, just a mix-and-match copy cat EP that is slighty over-produced.
I haven't listened to lightworker so if it's more original then forgive me, but this band has no real artistic talent. The just play other peoples music well and blend it well.
3 stars for production, vocals, talent, and looks...

when we listen to yesterday's rising, we hear great music, February 2, 2006
it's rare for me to give ep's a perfect 5 star rating but when an ep is good, it's good. i first heard these guys when they were on the 2004 warped tour and i heard like half of one song while i was walking to go see rise against play and it really caught my ear and i found out who they were and bought this ep and it blew me away. this ep is just packed with raw emotion, screams, heavy breakdowns, double bass, and stunning lyrics. the musicianship is also very tight. not bad for a band who's members are barely out of highschool. it's one of those cd's that can really get your blood pumping and just make you want to drive your fist into something. i was really anticipating their new full length "lightworker" but was dissappointed with that release. it seems like they lost their rawness and hardcore/metal sound for just a hard rock with screaming sound. another thing that stands out with this band is the screaming. i know it seems that even britney spears is screaming today, (bad joke) but brandon does in a way that gives you chills. it's so raw and it's one of those screams that almost kind of scares you (in a good way). bottom line is that is a solid ep that definitely tops their full length. if you like emocore, check this band out.

Does everyone know everyone, March 28, 2005
I see that most of these reviews come from people that know the band. Well I don't. This EP has something different with it.
It is Hardcore but, also EMO comes to minds. I would also recommend the band that won the Battle for OZZfest, "A Dozen Furies". They both have the same feeling and difference in their music.
