Although this book is advertised in the ARE catalog, there are serious questions about the material in the book. I question the authenticity of the source of Carole's inspirations.

Imagine that you've just lost a baby . . . but your body still thinks you are pregnant. The weight just piles onto your tiny frame. Doctors are no help. In frustration, you try a hypno-therapist who is good at helping reverse weight gains.

Sounds pretty stressful, huh?

But that's just the beginning. During your hypnosis, you begin having memories of past lives, different beings and an unexpectedly positive future. You tell your husband, and he begins to wonder if you're all there. Fortunately, your daughters listen.

That's the backdrop for Carole Chapman's fascinating personal story of how she went to lose weight and ended up being directed by spiritual beings to write this book.

Ms. Chapman is a good storyteller. In the course of the book, she takes turns poking fun at her own experiences, describing her husband's comments about her fiction book that she thinks is non-fiction, sharing coincidences that she finds with material from other sources, and speculating about what it all means.

I remember reading about those who recalled former lives during hypnosis when I was a youngster in the 1950s. Bridey Murphy is the person I remember best. Whatever was happening with the woman who recalled Bridey Murphy, it was clear that she was experiencing something pretty gripping during hypnosis.

Ms. Chapman's book makes it equally convincing that she is sincere in describing her experiences. It's that sincerity that draws you into the narrative.

Ms. Chapman's past and future worlds are pretty impressive in their span. She meets Jesus, Michael and Gabriel. She remembers herself in three different life forms and sees a fifth that is coming. Her relationship with her husband actually spans living in different life forms. She has lived in and can explain a lot about Atlantis. Ms. Chapman also describes new forms of power used to rematerialize stone to build the pyramids like a transporter on Star Trek, what's missing from Einstein's Unified Field theory, rapid travel through flying snakes and how humans are about to evolve into more spiritual beings more closely related to their origin as light.

Whether or not you find her experiences to be ones that you believe have happened and her visions ones that will happen . . . or you just enjoy the story as a story, I think you'll find this book to be an entertaining read.

I enjoyed the parts where she is most skeptical of herself. It's a hard thing to do while relating one's own experiences, but she carries it off well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do You Really Want to Stretch?, January 18, 2006
This review is from: When We Were Gods: Insights on Atlantis, Past Lives, Angelic Beings of Light and Spiritual Awakening (Paperback)
Carole Chapman has an engaging presence that draws us into her story in this book. I don't know that it matters whether or not you believe in reincarnation, in the actual existence of gods we all throught were myths, or even that many of us may once have been what the ancient humans called gods. What I find best about her book is the opportunity to stretch oneself. Find out whether it makes a difference for you if you decided to give thanks before each meal in the way she felt instructed to do by the god Pan. Find out what sort of experience you have greeting the sun each day, whether at sunrise, as Carole does, or at other times during the day. Find out what you experience after a few weeks of walking outside daily, without glasses, during certain hours. Yes, Carole describes doing all of these activities, and some of the beginning results of doing them. But she doesn't tell it all in the book, even in the fun articles included in the back, which expand her story. It isn't until you try them for yourself, then contact her about your experience, that you begin to find out things about yourself that you didn't realize before. If you want to stretch yourself even further, I recommend attending one of her workshops. But start with this book, and see where you find yourself heading. You might be surprised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Divine Connections, Beatific Visions, December 4, 2005
This review is from: When We Were Gods: Insights on Atlantis, Past Lives, Angelic Beings of Light and Spiritual Awakening (Paperback)
Edgar Cayce, America's greatest psychic once stated that "all souls were created in the beginning, and are finding their way back to whence they came." From hundreds of trance channelings, Cayce gave us a glimpse of history that is not written in the history books. He had the ability to tap into the Universal Mind, the Akashic Records and download supernatural information that most people do not have access to. In an anxious search to get help with an abnormal weight problem, author Carole Chapman accidentally tapped into a similar metaphysical field of information while under hypnosis.

Many people have found success in losing weight using hypnotherapy. Carole Chapman did lose the weight but only after finding out under hypnosis the history of her soul and her creation story which in essence was a foundation for the history of the soul on earth. As the story unfolded, Carole was terrified at first because she found out under hypnosis that her origins were not of the earth and she didn't even believe in aliens or Light Beings from Arcturus. She was a serious minded photo-journalist for NASA not a trekky. As her hypnosis sessions continued she could not only see in her mind's eye the various incarnations she experienced, but she could feel them and would often times go through an emotional roller coaster reliving those lives.

In Carole's case, her soul also experienced a lifetime in Atlantis as a scientist in charge of the main crystal at the top of a tower that maintained the balance of energy and generated electromagnetic power for the whole continent. She was shown the specific cause of the destruction of Atlantis. Coming further in time, Carole learned that she lived in Jerusalem and was friends with Jesus and his mother Mary.

Feeling as if she was going crazy and never intending to go public with this information, Carole then got cross examined by the Archangels Gabriel and Michael telling her that they will not let her lose the unwanted pounds unless she writes a book describing everything she learned under hypnosis to help humanity prepare for the coming earth changes. The archangels showed her the not too distant future and described who the "Golden Ones" are. They also told her how we literally can feed our souls with the morning sunlight.

If this wasn't overwhelming enough, Carole then got a personal visit from a famous spirit of nature who spoke on what was necessary to cooperate with the earth so that humanity as well as the world of nature could survive. This spirit spoke with urgency and pleaded that humanity awaken and be aware of the environmental crisis that endangers all life on earth.

For those who understand the purpose of reincarnation, this book is a fascinating account of one woman's supernatural journey and it gives us a glimpse of a new era where there really will be peace.

The author's background, her sincerity and reluctance to go public with her story lend to its believability. Hopefully the peace will come without more cataclysmic events.

5.0 out of 5 stars A candid look at dreams, May 9, 2007
This review is from: When We Were Gods: Insights on Atlantis, Past Lives, Angelic Beings of Light and Spiritual Awakening (Paperback)
When We Were Gods is a candid, true story of one woman's search for a solution to dieting that led to dream therapy which in turn led to her own sense of spiritual awareness. Dream therapy as a clue to weight-gain problems was news to me to begin with. But for author Carol Chapman it was just the beginning of a long journey into the unknown. In her early dreams she meets a man,one whose face is not familiar, but who seems to be linked strongly to her. When she later meets him in real life, the attraction holds. They eventually marry and have remained a team for more than 17 years. But the dreams take her much further than the solution to her weight control. THey bring memories of the world of Atlantis and suggest explanations of the connection between Atlantis and the Mayan civilizations. Whatever each of our mind sets may be about these mysteries, one has to be intrigued by the candor and spiritual nature of the writer's documentation of this fascinating look at dreams and impressed by a writer who had the courage and faith to marry and link her life with 'the man of her dreams.'

1.0 out of 5 stars Does Not Agree With Cayce Material, March 8, 2008

This review is from: When We Were Gods: Insights on Atlantis, Past Lives, Angelic Beings of Light and Spiritual Awakening (Paperback)
Although this book is advertised in the ARE catalog, there are serious questions about the material in the book. I question the authenticity of the source of Carole's inspirations.

For example if a giant black spider had held the great Atlantean crystal, why didn't Cayce say so? If there was no writing or language at the time the Great Pyramid was built, why did Cayce talk about records that would be discovered? The soul that became Jesus materialized baby bodies in the pit of the pyramid to form the Adamic race??? There's just too much in this book that is open to question. And that's putting it kindly.

A book that rings much more true about the state of affairs in Atlantis and Lumuria is Shirley MacLanine's THE CAMINO. Shirley's spontaneous throw back experiences with her teacher to lifetimes in these ancient cultures ring true and are enthralling to read.

Since Shirley uses modern language, she's much easier to understand than the often obscure Cayce readings, and her experiences agree with the Cayce commentaries. Skip WHEN WE WERE GODS and read MacClaine as well as some of the original Cayce readings.

Shirley's teacher tells her that the Adamic race existed as far back as Lemuria, and Cayce talks about how in Egypt much work was done in perfecting human bodies in the Temple of Sacrifice. He doesn't say anything about little pink babies being formed in the Pit (the first Adam) which Carole Chapman talks about. I think the ARE should be more cautious about the books it recommends.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not A Serious Book For Atlantologists, February 6, 2008
By
Jeff Marzano (Essex Junction, VT USA) - See all my reviews

This review is from: When We Were Gods: Insights on Atlantis, Past Lives, Angelic Beings of Light and Spiritual Awakening (Paperback)
This appears to be a book about someone who had a lot of issues going on with things like divorce, loneliness, sexuality, hemorrhoids, and most significantly a miscarriage that then led to a rapid weight increase and obesity.

She went to a hypnotist as a last resort to help with the weight problem. During this process it appears that her subconscious mind started to manufacture fictional root causes for her various issues.

These fictional, past life visions always portray her as a very important character.

On Atlantis she was a scientist who developed the legendary crystal based technology. Then as a frog being she controlled this crystal power together with a gigantic spider. As Atlantis sank into the murky depths she flew to Egypt by jumping into the mouth of a snake which spit her out. In Egypt she was a goddess who worked with the god Amon to construct the Great Pyramid.

Too bad on Atlantis while she was ordering a drink at the bar a Roman centurion seduced her and eventually betrayed her by telling Belial about their discussions about the crystal.

She provides an alternative version of the Last Supper which is combined with another bible story of the lady who annointed Christ's feet with perfume and dried them with her hair. In fact she says she herself is that lady who some people associate with Mary Magdalene although I don't think the bible specifically says it was Mary Magdalene.

She also remembers attending meetings in a cave with Christ, Mary, and the archangels Michael and Gabriel who wore robes and hoods that cover their faces. She says those angels don't understand us because they have never been human.

All this leads up to what she perceives as her calling and very important mission for the world which is to inform the 'Golden Ones' about things that have already been documented in many books. In fact it is from these books that her own subconscious mind got the material to create these hypnotic visions.

The husband is sort of like a grounding figure in her life. At one point she is tormented about whether or not to write this book so he says:

"Then don't write it. Write something else. Get some kind of job."

He also tells people (correctly):

"She's writing a book. It's fiction, but she thinks it's non fiction."

Information like this can be entertaining I guess. But it's not a serious book for anyone trying to unravel the great mystery of Atlantis.

I enjoyed the book at times but perhaps not for the reasons intended. To me it was informative to see how someone interpreted information that was obtained under hypnosis.

There's reasons why information obtained using hypnosis is not admissable as evidence in a court of law.

That's not to say people cannot remember real events from Atlantis and the ancient past using hypnosis and meditation. I believe they can.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read on Metaphysical Topics, May 12, 2011

This review is from: When We Were Gods: Insights on Atlantis, Past Lives, Angelic Beings of Light and Spiritual Awakening (Paperback)
As the Public Information Officer at Edgar Cayce's Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) in Virginia Beach, VA (retired), I highly recommend "When We Were Gods" by Carol Chapman. Her book beautifully explains the concepts and some of the mysteries of the ages left behind by the American Prophet known as Edgar Cayce. His revelations on Creation, the root races, and our history as souls on earth are sometimes difficult to comprehend; yet, Chapman thoroughly manages to explain the information that flowed through this ordinary man in a way anyone can understand. Like Cayce, her information came while she was in a hypnotic trance and she often quotes directly from him in the areas the two of them matched. This is a must read, especially for those familiar with the Cayce readings, as Chapman presents a better understanding of how thought forms began and were trapped upon the earth plane, the unfathomable lifestyle and technology of Atlantis, and most important of all, how and why the beloved Amelius became the first Adam. I love this book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Needs an editor, January 28, 2012

Have just finished reading this book. Dosen't anyone use an editor these days?? She spends a hundred pages telling us about overcoming her resistance to writing the book!! More detail, less speculation and family conversations would have made for a less labourious read. Does not really add a lot to information about Atlantis. A lot of extraneous material to wade through before finding a few gems.
The Cayce material is more worthwhile. I hope she finally managed to lose weight though and Archangels Michael and Gabriel kept their part of the bargain.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nonsense, February 23, 2007

Like Graham Hancock's books, this is a load of nonsense. Any books whose titles include any of the words 'quest', 'sphinx', 'Holy Grail', 'Ark of the Covenant', 'ancient', 'mysterious', 'secrets', 'Atlantis', 'Templar', 'alien', 'code', 'supernatural', 'mythic', 'cosmic', are just giving away the fact that they are unscientific rubbish. And isn't it significant that the leading Nazi Heinrich Himmler had a passionate interest in the 'Ark of the Covenant' and the occult? All these books are based on wishes and dreams, but we should all know that children wish, adults decide. Adults who waste any of their time on this sort of nonsense are regressing to a childish time. Adults should not do this. These books are all regressive, reactionary.
