Book Description

In a moment of desperation, two strangers make a wish, only to discover that sometimes a wish can take you down an unexpected path ... straight toward a life-changing love. WHEN WISHES COLLIDE, Book #3 in the WISH Series, is an emotionally compelling and suspenseful contemporary romance by #1 NY Times Bestselling Author Barbara Freethy.

Adrianna Cavello's life changed in an instant when a break-in at her restaurant took the life of her boyfriend and left her too traumatized to return to work. Months later, with everything she's ever wanted on the line, Adrianna makes a wish by tossing a coin into a fountain known for making miracles.

Wyatt Randall is also in need of a miracle. Two years earlier, his ex-wife kidnapped their daughter, and Wyatt is desperate to find his little girl. A new lead raises his hopes, but quickly fizzles out. When his coin clashes with another, he sees what little hope he has flying away.

Adrianna and Wyatt soon learn that they have more in common than two coins that collided. In fighting for the lives they lost, they must learn how to trust again. Only then will they discover that meeting each other and falling in love might not be what they wished for, but exactly what they need.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hero and heroine to root for! August 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Poignant emotion, compelling mystery, and great romance...I read this book in a big gulp and enjoyed every minute. Wyatt has never given up his search for his missing daughter and he thinks he might have a new lead in chef Adrianna. As they look for the little girl they grow closer, despite their very guarded hearts. Loved the San Francisco setting, loved the hero and heroine who are both struggling with pasts that hurt them. Fab story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good book. January 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Started reading and couldn't put it down. The characters had a lot of depth and
I just had to know what would happen next. Not your average read . Real people with less then fairy tale lives. Had never read this author before last week but have now read four of her books. Each has been different. She is not a cookie cutter author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoo Hoo What a great ride!! August 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Barbara Freethy's Wish series is one that I truly enjoyed, the books are fast moving, with plenty of story line so the reading is rapid. I read this book in a day, simply because I wanted to see what would happen next. I came across Barbara by chance, and I am so very glad that I did.. I have read nearly everything she has written. If you are looking for a book that really takes you into it, give Barbara a try. There are a number of series books and some stand alones. Thanks Barbara for a really great trip on Sunday!

1.0 out of 5 stars Freethy collides with something August 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Freethy really misses the mark with this book. The main male character is difficult to like even though he plays the victim of a kidnap. As the owner of 25 other Freethy books, I feel I can recommend you give this one a miss. A great author but this book does not rate compared to her usual very enjoyable efforts.

1.0 out of 5 stars lackluster July 18, 2013

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had read Barbara Freethy before, and liked her so much I've re read some of the books I bought, but this was a total disappointment. The chemistry between the characters seemed unreal, even forced, there was no passion....the ending (which I wont give away) was very rushed and just too predictable. I would not recommend you buying this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good premise let down by mediocre execution March 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The "bones" of this book -- its plot -- are good. The story builds reasonably well on a premise that holds tremendous potential for dramatic development. The writing, however, disappoints.

Freehy writes in workmanlike fashion, but there's no artistry to it. "When Wishes Collide" takes place in San Francisco, one of the most picturesque cities on the planet, yet there is virtually no sense of atmosphere or place. Characterization is thin, particularly for Wyatt, the male lead, and much of the dialogue has a distinctly unnatural quality. The characters often behave in ways that feel contrived and artificial. Overall, everything feels "dumbed down" to a 6th-grade reading level -- which might not be an accident.

Also annoying to me is the way the forward momentum of the book is arrested every few pages so that one protagonist or the other can examine his or her own feelings. I know introspection is a good thing, but -- sheesh! -- a little goes a long way. In my view these passages add nothing to the story. Most of them could be shortened considerably or eliminated altogether -- but then the book would be 20% thinner.

Perhaps the real problem is that "When Wishes Collide" is a hybrid of the romance and mystery genres. Freehy is clearly more comfortable dealing with the romantic aspects of the story; when it comes to the mystery, she seems somewhat out of her element. Unfortunately, that part of the story -- dealing with whether or not Wyatt will find his kidnapped daughter -- requires more realism and detail than is in evidence here.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT April 12, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this story. I really had a problem with the one star reviewer. He plays the victim of a kidnap....are you kidding me. To have one's child taken by a drug addicted female with no feelings for anyone but herself and then subject the child to the life she was living makes me want to wring her neck and enjoy doing it. I can't begin to imagine the anguish that a parent would go through losing a child this way. I almost lose my mind when my pet is lost for a few hours. But a child? I think I would lose my mind.

I loved this hero. He took a lot more responsibility for his marriage failure than I thought he deserved. No one held a gun to his ex-wife's head and made her take pills, or kidnap his child and go on the run with her, or leave her on the streets of San Francisco while she was out doing god's knows what. I was beyond delighted when he put her in jail!

The heroine has had a traumatic event in her life. They meet at a wishing fountain and even tho they do not believe in wishes coming true they decide to toss a coin in and make a wish anyway. I was afraid this was going to turn into one of those fairy tales where the good fairy grants the wish, etc. But it was not that at all. Two very troubled people meet and help each other to see their way to moving on with their lives. It was great how one's advice to the other came back to haunt them in dealing with their own issues. I LOVED this story. Great book and very entertaining read. I highly recommend it.

Questions from Readers for Barbara Freethy

I cannot get these books at Barnes and Noble - 0nly in Nook form. The wish Series. Why?
andy asked Oct 1, 2012
Author Answered

Right now the print versions of the WISH SERIES are only available at Amazon, but the ebooks are available at Nook and all the other retailers. I'm self publishing the Wish Series and right now there isn't a cost-effective way for me to distribute to all the retailers without charging the reader way too much for the book. But I'm hoping that will change in the future!
