5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent grammar resource
I don't recommend paying attention to a reviewer who uses terms like "retardisms" and "being quizzes" and then derides a teacher for being a "foreigner." WHEN WORDS COLLIDE is used by university journalism departments to force-feed the conventions of grammar, usage, and punctuation to journalism majors. It is an excellent and accurate resource that serves this purpose...

I ordered two copies of this used book on Amazon. I found one in the $35 range and one for one cent. I received the one cent book, which included a blank workbook, and it was a very good buy. However, the $35 book, which I sent to my son, only included the workbook, which had been used (answers were written in it). I contacted the seller, asking for the accompanying...

WHEN WORDS COLLIDE is used by university journalism departments to force-feed the conventions of grammar, usage, and punctuation to journalism majors. It is an excellent and accurate resource that serves this purpose well. I know of no better English grammar handbook for the serious writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't complain., September 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Shipping was fast and the book was in great shape. No complaints and I would definitely recommend. I returned this book simply because I didn't need it for class anymore and the return was super easy.

However, the $35 book, which I sent to my son, only included the workbook, which had been used (answers were written in it). I contacted the seller, asking for the accompanying book, and the seller wrote back that he was selling it for $35 (I don't remember the exact price).

I am quite happy with the purchase I made for one cent, but I am not satisfied with the $30 purchase, and I will probably try to get a refund. The workbook is absolutely of no use without the accompanying grammar book, as one must read the chapter in order to complete the workbook questions. I would think that the seller could have just sent me the grammar book, as a price of around $70 seems exorbitant for a bundle that includes a used workbook.
