Book Description

January 16, 2001
A best-seller revised...with a value-added bonus!

Many moms feel guilty about screaming at their children but don?t know how to stop. Ketterman says, ?Having grown up with a loving but screaming mother, I know the emotional damage it causes. Being a mother of three, I also know how easy it is to fall into the habit of screaming.? From their research and personal and professional experience, Dr. Ketterman and Pat Holt share why mothers fall into the habit of yelling and what factors drive mothers to lose control.

Using real stories from real moms, they discuss examples of how screaming and anger affects children, and also the debilitating affects it has on moms. The authors challenge parents to look at their own anger and choose to react differently. Practical steps are given for more effective and positive ways to get children to do what they must do. The second part of the book offers commonsense answers to specific questions relating to all areas of child-rearing, from infancy through teens.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Can Really Make a Difference, May 16, 2000
Boy, I wish my own mother had read this book when I was growing up! Dr. James Dobson recommended it on a Christian radio station where I live and thank God he did. It can really make a difference if you are feeling out of control at home with your family and need some sense of perspective. The book is well written and is not offensive in any way. It is based on Christian beliefs and the authors offer some well educated tips and suggestions that actually do work. It's very down to earth and has nothing off the wall written in it. Anyone can read it and become a better parent. It's nice because it's not too long either. I recommend it and am buying it for my sister.

I just finished this a few days ago and am already reaping the benefits of not screaming at my kids, ages 3 and 1. When I'm in control of myself, I can deal with all the things that come up. Should be required reading for every mom!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Little Book - A Lot of Wisdom, September 5, 2007
I bought this book by chance (or God's grace) when it first came out and I was raising 4 boys on my own; ages 1, 5, 6 and 9. It was offered as "Today's unadvertised special" during a book order I was placing over the phone. Screaming had become a habit for me in dealing with my children but thank God I read this book! I HIGHLY recommend it to every mother and fathers too, if necessary. My boys (men in some cases) are now 14, 18, 19 and 22 and they are calm and well adjusted even amidst all the other dysfunction they had to endure! If I could attribute any one thing (other than God's grace) to our mutual success (they're still living and I'm still sane!) it would be this book!!! I wish you well. :)
