Simply Kellie,
By Roberta Hotard "Mrs. H" (Somewhere here, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: When You Lie Next to Me (Audio CD)
I was introduced to Kellie Coffey's music by a friend and I have heard some of her music that was played on a soap opera over 1 year ago.
My favorite songs from this cd is: When you lie next to me and I just knew and Outside looking in. She reminds me of a voice like Celine.

Great Debut From Talented Vocalist,
By Maren Cuykendall (Coralville, IA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: When You Lie Next to Me (Audio CD)
There is no doubt that Kellie Coffey can sing. She has a very powerful voice, and has been compared to the likes of Celine Dion. There is also no doubt that Coffey can write her own music. She wrote or co-wrote almost all of the songs on her debut album. "When You Lie Next To Me", the debut single is one of the best songs on the album. It's about appreciating the one you love because life could be lost at any moment. "At The End Of The Day" has the same kind of theme. It's about living each day to the fullest. "Bluer Skies" is an upbeat tune about living out your dreams, and that it's never too late. "Outside Looking In", the duet with Lonestar's Richie McDonald is a well written song and is done beautifully. It's one the best on this album. Coffey also covers Tina Arena's "Love's Funny That Way". This song has been done a few times before, but Coffey manages to keep it fresh sounding and different from past versions. Perhaps the best song on the album is "Fingerprints", one of the songs that actually was not written by Coffey. It is very cleverly written and has the theme of heartbreak. Kellie Coffey is a great artist who is off to a very strong start. This is a great collection of songs from someone with a very powerful voice. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it is slightly overproduced and some of the songs do sound similar to one another. But don't let that stop you from buying this album. It is clear that Coffey is a true talent with great music to share.

A Welcome Coffey Break!,
This review is from: When You Lie Next to Me (Audio CD)
This is one of the most incredible debuts I've heard in my entire life.Kellie Coffey's voice is as smooth and polished as Celion Dion's, and she knows just when to throw in a country twang for good measure. Whether she's belting out a traditional ballad the strength of WHEN YOU LIE NEXT TO ME or the more subdued OUTSIDE LOOKING IN to the fun rhythms of LOVE'S FUNNY THAT WAY and BLUER SKIES, this is one complete easy-listening musical journey of a true songbird who deserves to rise to the top of the industry. Where other artists might allow some of the lesser tunes to serve as nothing more than filler, Kellie winningly puts her own appealing personal stamp on every tune. Easily, Kellie can stand on equal ground with the phenomenal likes of Trisha Yearwood as a vocalist, and she can hold her own up against the pop nuances of Faith Hill.

Great Debut Album!,

Kellie Coffey can sing, no doubt there. She's been slated the Celine Dion of country. In fact, she once sang background vocals for Barbra Streisand. On her debut she proves she can sing, and handle a variety of music. Kellie co wrote much of the material on her debut WHEN YOU LIE NEXT TO ME. The title track is a hit already, a song about taking time to appreciate the beuaty of basking in the glow with the one you love. Other highlights include her cover of Wynonna's "Love's Funny That Way" (cowritten by Tina Arena), "Outside Looking In" and "Fingerprints". A well rounded album overall, and worth checking out.

Blown Away,

This album is the most superb album of 2002 so far. It is so beautiful through its nuances. It stays provacative, yet edgy. The stand-out songs on this album are "When You Lie Next To Me"-a beautiful ballad about love, "At The End Of The Day"-a great upbeat number that suggests that we should all live life to the fullest every day, and the heart-wrenching "Whatever It Takes"- a great love song that made even me cry the first time i heard it (yes, i am a man too). This song is so wonderful i can't imagine anyone not falling in love with it. Also, this album also reminded me a lot of Wynonna (my all time favorite) because not only does she cover a Wynonna tune ("Love's funny that way" from Wynonna's album "The Other Side"), Kellie also has writing credits with some songwriters that Wynonna has worked with. And finally to add to that, Kellie had Dann Huff produce the album, someone who was worked with Wynonna. Kellie also carries all the flair that Wynonna does only with higher octave vocals. So if you love Wynonna like I do, you will surely love this album with it's musicality and love. Kellie is here to stay and she shouldn't have any problems.

Strong Coffey, Strong Album,

This review is from: When You Lie Next to Me (Audio CD)
In a day when Nashville is covering old rock songs, and working on its cookie cutter sound, it is strange for an artist to have even one song that doesn't sound like thousands before it. Coffey in turn has an answer to this problem, co-writing most of the tracks on her debut effort. Her voice, a deep thick and powerful, there is no doubt Coffey is an original. The stronger tracks are "When You Lie Next To Me", a song about lying in the comfort of the one you love, and not taking a thing for granted, "Outside Looking In" a duet wih Lonestar's lead singer, about having what appears to be a perfect relationship where no one but the two in love know that it is falling apart. Over all this ablum deserves a look, you'll be surprised, not everything in Nashville has to be water downed Pop Music.

This debut album from Kellie Coffey was released in May 2002, and it still hasn't left my cd player! Unfortunately she left BNA so we are waiting for her to sign with a new label to hear new music. This is a great cd though! Kellie has a strong voice that is alike to Celine Dion's. The first single "When You Lie Next To Me" was a breakout hit, but sadly the only one. Still, it's a great album throughout. She does an excellent cover of Wynonna's "Love's Funny That Way". The duet with Richie McDonald from Lonestar on "Outside Looking In" is touching and poignant. "I Just Knew" and "The Simple Truth" are nice uptempo country songs. "Fingerprints" is another highlight, a great power ballad. "At The End of The Day" is a nice positive song. Other highlights include "Bluer Skies", "Whatever It Takes" and "What It's Like To Be Me". Check it out!

What a debut*,

Kellie's debut CD is nothing short of amazing. If you like "When you lie next to me", you will love the rest of this CD. There is a good mix of slow ballads and upbeat songs. The duet with Lonestar, "Outside Looking In" is about a relationship that doesn't seem to be filled with love, even though it may look so from the outside. This song is great and Lonestar's vocals help it out. My favorite song is "Why Wyoming", which is about a lost love leaving and wondering what you couldn't offer him. "Bluer Skies" is an upbeat song about chasing dreams. All of these songs are priceless and Kellie's emotion sparkles the lyrics! I would definately buy her CD. All songs could be singles.

The new female voice of country music,
By A Customer
This review is from: When You Lie Next to Me (Audio CD)
Wow. If she's as good live as she is on this CD, there's a new queen of country music. She even wrote most of the songs. Kellie Coffey is the best I've heard in a long time. Check out the duet with Richie from Lonestar and the ballad "Whatever it takes". The uptempo songs are great too. Trisha meets Celine meets Martina. Wow!!!

Excellent Debut!,

Kellie Coffey could be considered the country Celine Dion, her powerful vocals are something to talk about. She sang background vocals for Barbra Streisand on her farewell tour in 1999, and now she has released her debut album. The album is light country, hardly could be considered true country but there are hints of fiddle and steel guitar here and there. Coffey co-wrote 7 of the 11 tracks on the album. The album's first single, and the title track, is a tender ballad showcasing her excellent vocals, a song about being so in love with someone, that no words need to be spoken. The second single was the upbeat and positive "At The End of the Day", which is a very true sentiment that will resonate with many listeners. The album opens with "Bluer Skies", an uptempo song about getting away with a special someone. "Fingerprints" is an excellent ballad, a highlight among the set. "Whatever It Takes" is the third single, a similar sentiment of the title track. She also does a cover of Wynonna's "Love's Funny That Way". The closing duet with Lonestar's Richie McDonald is a beautiful song. Other highlights include uptempos like "The Simple Truth" or "I Just Knew", as well "Why Wyoming" and "What It's Like To Be Me" are worth checking out. Not one bad song on the album! Check this one out!
