1.0 out of 5 stars Still looking for the story., May 28, 2009
This review is from: When I'm With You (Paperback)
Most of Linda Lael Miller's books involve relationships with "in context" sex. This book is down-and-dirty sex struggling to find a story. Having not read every one of JoAnn Ross' books, I can't speak on hers except to say what I have read have been much better written.

In the past, as a librarian I've felt safe to suggest a Miller book to a 17 year old or a 75 year old with the warning "there's some sex, but nothing you don't know about." Well, not so here. The 17 year old may know, but there's a good chance the 75 year old doesn't and would really not feel compelled to find out.

There is a storyline here, but it's in the fine print at the bottom of the page. Have fun.

I like both of these authors so I decided to try an anthology. That may have been my problem with this book, since I don't like anthologies. The stories I feel are okay for a quick read. Don't think you will feel complete after you finish this book. (I always feel like something is still missing after anthologies.) Like I said earlier. It may just be me and how I feel about this type of book. I will still continue to read and enjoy their solo work.

2.0 out of 5 stars When I'm With You, June 2, 2009

I love Linda Laerl Miller but she really went overboard on sex this time.
Still she wrote 2 wonderful stories.
Joann Ross I would not buy anouther book that she writes she was all over the place with thoughts and not plots.
My goal read everything I can get my hands on by Linda Lael Miller and
avoid anything writen by JoANN Ross

2.0 out of 5 stars Joann Ross' explanation in her comments to reviewers says it, July 16, 2009

This review is from: When I'm With You (Paperback)
I read the 2nd LLM story and Cajun Heat by Ross. I was disappointed in the LLM and I guess shocked by the Ross story. LLM's had no plot whatsoever. Ross' had a promising back story and premise but was overwhelmed with all the sex, very erotic and graphic sex (well written, but made me blush/squirm). I think I was shocked because I had never read such from her before.

So, as Ms. Ross explains, these were short stories written for the Brava line, meant to be erotic stories with little story. Unfortunately for those of us disappointed, the book does not indicate anywhere what these stories were. I feel deceived when I felt I could trust that the stories would be comparable to the authors' usual writing.

Joann Ross is a great romance writer, IMO, as is Linda Lael Miller. I'm sorry I spent my money on this book, but I can't wait to read Ross' newest book and LLM's newest Stone Creek book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great stories but they're not new!, November 23, 2009
This review is from: When I'm With You (Paperback)
I picked this book up at my local library, thank goodness, because I would have been pretty darn angry if I'd have paid for it. Why, you might ask? Because I've read 3 of the 4 stories before. "Batteries Not Required" by LLM was published previously in Beach Blanket Bad Boys (2005). "Cajun Heat" by JR was in Bayou Bad Boys (2005) and "Love Potion # 9" by JR was in Bad Boys Southern Style (2006). I hate when publishers do this. If they are going to recycle old stories the least they can do is make it known that they have been reissued. I couldn't wait to read what I thought was going to be 2 new stories by 2 of my favorite authors only to find out that the book contained not 2 but 4 short stories, 3 of which I'd already read. The back jacket of the book doesn't even give any information about the stories or I might have realized that I'd read them before. The only story that seems to be new is "One Last Weekend" by LLM but for all I know it may also be a reissue that I haven't read.
If you haven't read these stories before then I would recommend this book. I liked all 4 of these stories with my only complaint being that they were too short but that tends to be the case with anthrologies in general. The only reason I give the book 2 stars is because I feel cheated by the publisher otherwise I would have given it a solid 4.

There are 2 stories in this book, and they are good stories. But I agree with other reviewers: Linda Lael Miller went a bit overboard on sex. These are VERY steamy! I think there is a bit too much sex. The stories would be better with a bit less.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, July 2, 2009
This review is from: When I'm With You (Paperback)
My other review didn't show up. Why? This book is nothing but smut. No plot, no story. Reads like a cheap XXX story. I'm a loyal Miller reader; have all her books. I'm so disappointed in her for this story. It shouldn't be available in my grocery store for a child to read.
