Book Description

January 2005
In his breakthrough book on obsessions of the heart, best-selling author Stephen Arterburn examines love addiction why it is on the rise, what it looks like, who it afflicts and what to do if you suspect yourself or someone you love to be suffering from it. Like alcoholics or drug addicts, love addicts get high on sex and romance, develop a tolerance for them and need ever-greater doses to keep going. Anyone who wishes to sustain a healthy relationship knows that nurturing true and lasting love is nearly impossible with someone who thrives only on romance. But for every weakness, there is a cure. If you believe that someone close to you may be struggling with love addiction, this book can open your eyes and offer methods for broaching and solving the problem. If you believe that you yourself may be battling addiction, When You Love to Much will help you recognize the truth and guide you on the road to real and lasting intimacy. Previously published as Addicted to Love Hard Cover.

This review is from: When You Love Too Much: Walking the Road to Healthy Intimacy (Hardcover)
He was on the money with this one. The innate need to be and feel loved can be very addictive. However, it should be saved for one good relationship not several romantic ones. It is so easy to be high on love and want to be in a relationship without doing the hard parts. It is the perpetual dating and interviewing that gives us this high. The true pearls of the relationships that last are discovered throughout the course of the relationship. Which should by most accounts be a lifelong covenant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It Lots by Dee Lundgren, professional counselor, January 15, 2011
What a profoundly helpful book that will change the way you think about love and romance. Especially deals with problems that women have with being addicted to romance novels. It is easy to overlook obsessions with these novels as harmless when in reality they can be harmful and addictive. This book is right on the money in helping you or someone you care about recognize the truth about what is going on in their life that is keeping them from experiencing all that God has for them in the area of intimacy. This book is one of the few Christian books that deals so thoroughly with sexual addiction and how to begin the road to recovery. Easy to read and apply if you are willing to take the brave look at your life. If you could only buy one resource for this issue get this one and change your life.
