About the Author

Judy Collins has thrilled audiences worldwide for nearly five decades with her magnificent voice and thoughtful interpretations. Many of Collins’s albums have been certified platinum and her version of Joni Mitchell’s "Both Sides Now" has been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Her rendition of Stephen Sondheim’s "Send in the Clowns" won Grammy’s Song of the Year in 1975. Judy's film about Antonia Brico, co-directed by Jill Godmillow, was nominated for an Academy Award in 1974. Brico was Judy's classical piano teacher when she was young and was the first woman to conduct major symphonies around the world. In 2000, Judy founded her own record label, Wildflower Records. In 2010 she enjoyed two huge successes with the New York Times best-selling picture books and CD version of OVER THE RAINBOW, illustrated by Eric Puybaret, and her latest album, Paradise, a collection of ten songs, including duets with Stephen Stills and Joan Baez.

The song alone as sung by Judy Collins would be a pleasure to hear over and over again; the imaginative eye-popping full page paintings by Eric Puybaret are treasures. To have both in one book is a rare treat.

The same two who paired to bring us the bestseller Over The Rainbow have joined talents to give us the beloved When You Wish Upon A Star, a song that has been in many hearts for over 60 years. Few could sing it as touchingly as Grammy Award winner Collins, and few could create the visual fantasy land to accompany it as did artist Puybaret.

Do believe all ages will respond to the idea of hope as expressed in the song, and youngsters will surely ask to hear the enclosed CD played over and over again while looking at the enchanting images accompanying the familiar words.

Highly recommended.

- Gail Cooke

Bought to play a few pieces when I got married to my wonderful wife. She enjoys Disney and I wanted something to play at our wedding. Hard to find piece of music at a reasonable price.

When You Wish Upon a Star by Ned Washington, Leigh Harline and Eric Puybaret is a beautiful illustrated book of the classic song.

The book is filled with beautiful illustrations featuring multicultural children from all over the world and my class enjoyed seeing kids who looked like them in the illustrations. The song is included on a CD sung by Judy Collins and although the song is beautifully performed it was a bit classical for my students who said that they would rather that I sang them the song instead of playing the CD (and normally they're excited to hear CD's because they hear me sing every day).

This is a book that can be enjoyed by kids of all ages in a classroom format and kids 4-8 who are reading independently.

I have always loved this song. This book is a beautiful way to express the song through words and captivating pictures. The CD is a nice touch as well.

The pictures were really nice but I wasn't that impressed with the writing. I read it to my pre-schoolers and the pictures weren't enough to hold their attention. It is now out at the book center as a free choice book and a never see any of them choosing it to look at.
