4.0 out of 5 stars Hope for the hurting; Biblical insights -God knows and cares
Steve Brown writes as a friend sharing words of comfort gleaned from a life of helping hurting people find hope in God. 3.0 out of 5 stars Spiritual Book
This book came highly recommended to anyone grieving the loss of a loved one. I appreciated that it arrived quickly; and I read it immediately. While I did not find a lot of solace in the book, I did find it somewhat helpful. Again, Amazon had the book readily available for order, and I received it very quickly.

Steve Brown writes as a friend sharing words of comfort gleaned from a life of helping hurting people find hope in God. The pains of life can make us bitter or by opening our lives to God, we can be renewed with God's unbroken promises. God knows and cares enough to be involved with life on earth. Many know about the ancient story of Job, but Steve has brought clarity to the wisdom of comforting truths in Job's encounter with God. God's unconditional love is there for those willing to openly express their deepest needs to God. Anyone struggling, suffering or hurting will find honest words of hope in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars What you and Job have in common, November 22, 2005

This review is from: When Your Rope Breaks (Paperback)
When Your Rope Breaks by Steve Brown is just the book when you fell like life is like Water Torture. Those times you cry out to family, friends, and God and feel like you are the only person in the universe. Steve Brown writer, Theological Professor, and radio host mixes just the right amount of Biblical direction and humor to get the point across, you are not alone. The book takes the reader down that lonesome road and delivers you to that place where if you are willing, even in the darkest times, you will know the presence of God.

By using the biblical story of Job Steve Brown shows the reader that all the platitudes and good intentions in the world, sometimes, just don't make you feel any better. But, the pay off in this book is that Christ through his suffering knows your suffering and does not abandon you.

If you have days when you just wonder why even get out of bed and if you do why continue on automatic pilot then When Your Rope Breaks by Steve Brown might be just the tonic for the soul that you need. The big plus in this book is that when it comes to personal suffering there are no easy answers. And, there are no quips and phrases that always bring comfort. But, the reader does find out that it is in that silence of suffering that God makes himself present.

A older friend recommended this book, and I ordered

2 copies from Amazon. Good Choice...when I was losing my Mom

and taking care of my husband who had stage 4 Cancer.

This book was wonderful. Both loved ones died within 6 months

of each other, but God is good.....

4.0 out of 5 stars When Your Rope Breaks, February 18, 2010
This review is from: When Your Rope Breaks (Paperback)
"When Your Rope Breaks" is an encouraging read for the person who is experiencing tough challenges. The author uses the Book of Job as one of his main references for his title.

Among the points covered include:

1. Suffering is inevitable in this world - many times we do something the right way only to have it fall apart.

2. The world revolves around God, not us.

3. Wonderful things to remember when our rope breaks (God is working things out for His glory, we will make it through, etc.).

4. Through God's grace we can persevere.

5. Do not let bitterness have a place in your life.

6. Sometimes our rope breaks because of what we have done. Other times our rope breaks because of the way the world works.

7. What Job's friends did right and wrong.

8. Discouragement is one of the greatest challenges when our rope breaks.

Read and be encouraged to persevere in the Lord when life gets tough.

Recommended.
