5.0 out of 5 stars One idea plus action can change your life! January 4, 2002
Format:Hardcover
I just scanned the reviews on Dan's book and I gotta tell you the low reviews are really harsh. Here's what I can tell you from the heart. My wife Michelle and I did the 575 mile week long AIDS Vaccine Montanna Vaccine Ride in 2001. It was an experience that changed our lives. We raised thousands for a critical cause, we grew as a couple, we got in shape, we said "yes" on days our bodies wanted to stop and our minds wanted to say "no",and we made many new special friends. I can't recommend a Pallotta Team Works event enough. They really took care of us. And again it was an experience of a life time.

Now for the book. At the event I met Dan and he signed the book during a book signing. I don't know Dan so this is not a friend endorsing a friend. I bought his book because the AIDS Vaccine Ride experience was so life changing I was curious to find out how the founder had created such a meaningful company that is impacting and helping so many people.

I read the book cover to cover on the flight home from the AIDS Ride. Granted I was motivated to read the book having just completed the ride but it really was a great book. I almost never read a book cover to cover. This one I couldn't put down.

It's a book that makes you stop and think. Are you going for your dreams? What are your dreams? What would it take to make the impossible, possible? I'm a huge believer that one idea can you change your life. The question is where does that one idea come from. My belief is that often a book like this one can give you a moment of "clarity" where you have an "aha" moment and it hits you what it is you really want to do with your life.

This book is also about creating a different kinda world. During the initiation day before the AIDS Ride they showed a video with no "talking", only words on a screen. I'm paraphrasing here but the short film said things like this week...lets live in a world that is diffent from the world we live in. A world where if someone gets a flat on their bike you stop and help them fix it. A world where if someone looks tired you help them set up their tent, or you prepare their meal, or carry their bag to their tent. A world where if you get to camp early after riding 94 miles you stand outside by the finishing line and cheer other riders in. A world where everyone for one week helps each other. That kinda of a world.

The film brought tears to the hundreds that were in the room. And for a week we lived in that kind of world. It was a very special world. One that brings tears to my eyes as I write and think back on how special it was. It's a world that happened in New York following the terriorist strikes of 9/11/01. Unfortunately its not a world we live in consciously everyday. We should.

I've written two books so far in my life and I haven't done a review since I wrote them. Reviews are brutal on authors. I know because they have inspired me and hurt me.

To Dan I say "cheers".

1.0 out of 5 stars One man's fantasy January 10, 2002
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Having walked in one of Dan's events, I was very interested to read his book.

Unfortunately, this book should be entitled "All About my Ego". This isn't the self-help genre, a biography or an essay - it's a lot of smoke and mirrors. When you know about Dan the man and his company you see that he doesn't believe in practicing what he preaches. And he does preach!

It is interesting reading, but I am sorely disillusioned by both Dan and his take on how people should be "led to greatness."

1.0 out of 5 stars Dictionary definition of narcissist May 28, 2002
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This is a book I wouldn't ever want to read again, unless it was to wite a paper on narcissism. Even the title is kind of creepy. Please don't waste your time or money.
