Book Description

Each year, 12 million Americans experience the death of a parent. Even when the death is expected, the loss presents both unique challenges and opportunities for personal spiritual growth. When Your Parent Dies is a brief, focused book that guides adults through this difficult time. The author shows how the resources of faith can help a grieving person move forward in life to find hope and healing.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

A WORD TO THE READER You are probably reading this book because a parent is terminally ill or has recently died. Perhaps you have made it through the initial shock and numbness and now have some time to reflect on what is happening to you.

You are experiencing one of life’s crucial events—the death of a parent. I know. I have been there, and I have accompanied my wife on her journey of grief. In this book we share our stories. I have also talked with friends about the death of their parents. I thank them for their openness and their concern for others. Although names and details have been changed to protect confidentiality, their stories are true. I hope they will help you feel that you are not alone.

I would also like to thank the pastors and counselors who have drawn on their experiences with those who grieve to offer insights and advice. As you use this book, I pray that you may experience the truth of Jesus’ promise: “Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

This is a great book for adults who have lost their parents through any circumstance. It gives many examples from those who have already been through this process. It goes through the various reactions to death that can be found within the same family. I personally have bought probably 50 of these books since I first found it after my dad died in 2000 and given them away to friends and family when they've lost a parent. You won't regret the very small $5.99 price for this great resource!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for understanding after losing a parent. December 20, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book was an easy read. It helped me a lot understand all my feelings and emotions after I lost my dad just 6 weeks ago. It definitely helped me start the road to healing though it will take time to get there. Highly recomend for someone who has recently lost a parent.
