Biography

For their seventh studio album, Lift a Sail, Yellowcard had a simple but ambitious goal: to outdo everything they’d ever done before. The guitars and drums had to hit harder; the songwriting had to cut deeper; the choruses had to reach heights only hinted at on their previous outings. Frontman Ryan Key believes he and his bandmates—guitarist Ryan Mendez, violinist Sean Mackin, ... Read more in Amazon's Yellowcard Store

Editorial Reviews

After two-and-a-half years, the music that provided a soundtrack for rebellious-yet-sensitive, coastal-dreaming pop-punk kids of the early 00's is back. Yellowcard put the break to rest with the announcement of their seventh albumWhen You're Through Thinking, Say Yes and are tearing into life on the road again. Returning to their pre-major label indie beginnings, Yellowcard signed with Hopeless Records for their seventh studio album. After 3 million records and over 4 million single tracks sold, Yellowcard is poised to re-energize their rabid fanbase and gain new ones with their heartfelt anthems of youth.

As an avid longtime Yellowcard fan(listening to them since the release of 'One for the Kids'), I have been anxiously awaiting this day since the band went on hiatus early in 2008. I listened up to their previous four albums in anxious anticipation for this release, and since downloading 'WYTTSY', I cannot stop listening. The lyrics are as powerful as ever, Ryan's vocals sound in top shape, the guitars riffs are poppy and powerful in true Yellowcard fashion, LP3 is killing it on the drums as always, and the rock violin is pulling the sound together in a way unmatched by any band besides Yellowcard.

This album is incredible. From the upbeat, poppy sound of "With You Around", to the more somber tone of "Sing for Me", to the powerful pop punk riffs of "For You, and Your Denial", Yellowcard has constructed a complete album that will surely fill the void left by their hiatus and will fulfill the craving for new Yellowcard music so many fans have desired for so long. I promise you won't be disappointed with this album. I describe it this way.. most people call this album as comeback. I'm calling it a homecoming. Yellowcard is back!!

I couldn't wait for this album to come out. Yellowcard is back finally after being gone a few years. I've missed them over the years. Yellowcard is one of my favorite bands, I've been listening to their music since I was 12, when Ocean Avenue came out, and I'm 20 now, so they have stayed close to me over they years. Their music means something to me. This album is still Yellowcard, The Yellowcard we all know, and love. On this album they go back to their roots. This album is something new, and something old. This album is amazing, and deserves more than five stars. This album is everything I wanted it to be. I personally think Yellowcard keeps getting better, and better after each album they release. I've had this album on repeat since I've gotten it. This album is worth every penny I spent on it. I personally think this is a must have album, especially for Yellowcard fans. Ryan's voice is great as ever. I do personally think Yellowcard has evolved on this album, even though this album sounds similar to their previous albums, but in a good way. The only thing I wish is if this album could have had more than ten songs, because that isn't enough for me. I personally think they should of made a Deluxe Version of this album, it would of been worth the extra cost. I personally think this album is worth way more than $10. Yellowcard is back seriously with the violin we all know, and love. The violin makes Yellowcard, and makes them unique, and who they are, without it, I don't think they would be the same. We first fell in love with the violin on Ocean Avenue. I personally think this album sounds a lot like Ocean Avenue, but almost ten years later. I also like the background vocals on this album. I haven't gone this in depth on an album review in awhile, this is how much I love this album.Read more ›

This cd has everything you could possibly listen for. A beautiful violin, wonderful vocals, catchy & meaningful lyrics, rocking guitars and awesome drums.
I really have no complaints with this album and I've grown addicted to all the songs on this album.
I really can't see any Yellowcard fan disliking this album. It's a very mature, meaningful and catchy album. Personally, it reminds me of a mix of Ocean Avenue and Paper Walls.

Simply put, this album is more than worth the money. Easily one of my favorite cds :)

I am so thankful I was browsing through my recommendations on Amazon, as I came across Yellowcard's new cd. I was unaware it had come out. I bought it immediately. It's now my favorite Yellowcard CD so far, just amazing and unique to their band. I love hearing the violin again and the distinct sound of Yellowcard's music. If you are a fan, you will love the CD. My favorite songs are the sound of you and I, Hang you up,and Sing for me. You will not be able to stop listening to it.

I gotta say, this album is fantastic. I've listened to it around 30 times through and it's only been a week. There are plenty of hard hitting songs featuring sweet guitar riffs and a couple softer ones with more expressive vocals thrown in for good measure. For me, this album ties in greatness with Ocean Avenue and Paper Walls. Lights and Sounds comes in second, and I just don't like to think about anything before that. The hiatus seems to have served them well.

If you can connect with anything I've said here, do yourself a favor and pick up this album. I don't think you'll regret it!

This album is so Yellowcard...they're back to their true selves. I agree with others when they say it's like Ocean Avenue and Paper Walls mixed together. The first track (The Sound of You and Me) opens the album so perfectly, bringing you back to Ocean Avenue, guitars and violin blending so wonderfully. Then the sound of "Paper Walls" starts to show itself as the album progresses into "For You and Your Denial". The beginning of that song reminds me also of the song "Lights and Sounds". Then, with "Sing For Me" I feel there's a little bit of a new sound (but a good sound!) showing itself in the song. It was SO worth waiting for! You will not be disappointed buying this album. I bought the Sing For Me Acoustic Bonus Track off iTunes once I got the album in the mail - that's a pretty tune too! I wish they would have recorded more songs on here! I personally think 12-14 songs is a good length, but oh well.
