I'd like to know as well. If you get too impatient, you can find Asian imports on Ebay that are region free and would presumably allow you to turn off any unwanted subtitles. The prices seem quite reasonable.
You could email Criterion (go to www.criterion.com, clink on 'contact us' link) and let them know you want them to re-release this title (as, for instance, Criterion have done with 'The Third Man'). Remember, though, that it is invariably a question of rights (either expiring or up for renewal) that delays re-releases. Criterion's 'Silence of the Lambs', plus the two Andy Warhol horror movies ('Flesh for Frankenstein' & 'Blood for Dracula') went out of print, but are now available - with pretty much the same Special Features (!) on cheaper DVDs by perfectly reputable companies/studios. In the meantime, if you live in the USA, keep an eye on Turner Classic Movies - they screened a crisp print of 'Rebecca' just a few weeks ago, and doubtless will again!
