3.0 out of 5 stars Not great but...
This isn't great literature by any means but it is a fun read. I sat and read it as I watched Dancing With the Stars Result show. I love Shirley, Goodness and Mercy and hope they will be back again next Christmas. This is a good feel story with happy endings and we all need a happy ending. No murder, no mayhem, no bad language - just a fun book. You know starting...

This review is from: Where Angels Go: Shirley, Goodness & Mercy are Back (Hardcover)
A shortage of available Prayer Ambassadors at the busiest time of year means the Archangel Gabriel must once again call out the Angelic Three Musketeers to handle a trio of special requests. Outwardly, they appear to be simple; find a little boy a dog, help a young lady move past the pain of a long ago divorce, and give a dying old man peace about his wife's fate when he has gone to the light. In fact, God has already put in place the very tools they need to bring about their miracles. Even these three shouldn't be able to cause trouble with such easy requests. Well, make that not very much trouble, considering who we are discussing. Apparent simplicity aside, Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy find that their chosen recipients of grace come with problems that make the gifts hard to grant. Fortunately, they work for Someone who is very good with miracles.

***** Though this latest foray into the adventures of my favorite fictional heavenly messengers is perhaps less whacky than prior entries, I dare say it is by far the best. Long before the last page is turned, not only have I laughed, but have also been moved to the good sort of tears that cleanse as they hurt. Keep a tissue handy. This is a treasure of a book and worth every sniffle. There is plenty of comedy, but the way Where Angels Go touches your heart is the payoff. *****

What an incredible book. Once you start reading it, you won't be able to set it down. I even got yelled at by my boss for reading the book on company time. I've read it 4 times and each time is like the first time. There is alot of information to process so get ready be blown away. It's awsome. Also, if you missed reading Tino Georgiou's masterpiece--The Fates, go and read it.

You know starting off what is going to transpire but how it is going to happen keeps you guessing although I did guess on the Beth and Peter story. I'd recommend this as a feel good book and it would make a great stocking stuffer.

4.0 out of 5 stars lighthearted entertaining angelic romp, October 6, 2007
This review is from: Where Angels Go: Shirley, Goodness & Mercy are Back (Hardcover)
Although he knows they are the worst rule breakers in heaven and expects them to one day cause him to have heart failure, Archangel Gabriel realizes that the angels Shirley, Goodness and Mercy somehow get heavenly results. So he reluctantly sends the trio back to earth for Christmas to answer human prayers for divine intervention, but also sternly warns them to abide by the heavenly rulebook.

Mercy is tasked with helping an elderly man Harry find some peace before he dies as he fears leaving his beloved wife behind. Goodness is to assist Beth who is afraid of taking a second chance at love ever since her forever marriage ended rather quickly. Finally Shirley is to grant a wish to a little boy who just wants to keep Rusty the dog, but his family cannot afford another mouth to feed.

When it comes to Shirley, Goodness and Mercy readers know that WHERE ANGELS GO, trouble follows. As always with this series (see A GIFT TO LAST), Debbie Macomber provides a lighthearted entertaining angelic romp. Readers will appreciate the three heavenly visitors as they break the rules, cause havoc, and bring good cheer to those in need including the audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warm-hearted, mischievous angels make for a fun book!, December 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Where Angels Go (Kindle Edition)
I was happily surprised to find Where Angels Go firmly ensconced on my new Christmas gift... Yes, I finally got a Kindle, and I'm absolutely delighted with it.

To get me started, my thoughtful friends and family members had it loaded with a number of Kindle books. I grabbed this one first because I saw Debbie Macomber's name on it and because it's a charming Christmas story; ideal for this season. I haven't read a book by Macomber since I read a few in her "Cedar Cove" series, but I have not forgotten how great she is at creating believable, heart-warming characters.

This book is a charming interlude where you'll become involved with three wonderful people who need help and three mischievous young Ambassador Angels whom Archangel Gabriel sends to help them. These enchanting angels are Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, which leads you to know that you'll find much humor in this book. Gabriel knows their hearts are in the right places, even though they're tempted to help the people too much. He gives them a chance to prove they've matured since their last assignments on earth. Is he mistaken?

Just what does Angel Shirley do when she's assigned to help a nine-year-old boy, Carter Jackson, get a dog for Christmas? His family wants him to have one, but the father fears his income won't cover the extra expenses. Does Shirley really help, or does she complicate matters when a stray follows the boy home?

And does Mercy always obey Gabriel's rules while helping a dying man, Harry Alderwood, fulfill his wish for his wife Rosalie to be settled in a comfortable residential care facility before his time is up? Does Mercy's act of kindness in helping Harry get back in bed after a life-threatening fall backfire on her?

And then there is Goodness who's assigned to help a young divorcee, Beth Fischer, find love and happiness. Goodness is not supposed to nudge the woman towards her compatible internet game partner, but is she obedient when she finds humans too "slow" in solving their own problems?

This story is a perfect mix of heart-break and humor as obstacles pop up to keep the humans from getting their wishes. Macomber is a master craftsman at this kind of story: heart-warming tales of small-town life, home, family and enduring friendships.

It's easy to see why she has sold over a hundred million books worldwide. You will definitely want to make that a hundred million and one! :-)

Three sweet stories of ordinary life struggles during different times in life. One story dealt with a boy, living in poverty, who asks God for a dog, the second with lonely, thirty-something, cyber friends, the last story is about an elderly couple dealing with end of life issues. A really enjoyable book.
