I bought this book for my son a few months prior to his first birthday to help him learn about the birthday celebration. I also didn't want him to be frightened at his first birthday party with everyone singing to him, which is a lot of stimuli for a baby, so this book helped prepare him. This book is very colorful, filled with sparkley foiled pages and lots of cute surprises. It quickly became one of his favorite stories to read and was a well loved book. I now buy it as a first birthday gift for all the babies in our life. Karen Katz has yet again created a delightful book filled with whimisical illustrations that capture a baby's attention. The "lift the flaps" concept is wonderful for babies and toddlers. This board book is sturdy, but not indestructible. The flaps are glued on, so they can be torn off, but they do repair reasonably well. A great addition to baby's library!

My daughter received a copy of this book for her first birthday. She loved it, and especially loved touching the sparkly foil designs under each of the flaps.

Because she liked it so much, I ordered a copy for my friend's child's birthday. When it came, the description on the back of the book had been changed, and no longer are any of the pictures made of sparkly foil. The description on Amazon is inaccurate. It's still cute, but definitely not as cute.

I bought this for my granddaughters first birthday. She loved it and three months later is still trying to blow the candles out!
Beautifully illustrated I would recommend this book highly.

I worked with infants for 5 years and noticed that children love Karen Katz. I bought several of these to give as first birthday presents and so far every parent has come back saying it is their child's new favorite book.

I don't have kids and sometimes struggle with getting good presents. I've gotten this book for 2 of my friends' children this year and both have absolutely loved it. The parents said the flaps make it fun and hands-on and teaches them about birthdays. It is not age-specific so it can be used year after year. Great quality too.

I ordered this book for the daughter I gave up at birth. Her first birthday is comoing up and wanted something she could always remember me by and this book was perfect! There was cute little surprises behind every flap and the little girl in this book is as curious as my little girl is so it just seemed to fit. If you want a book that your little one will enjoy, I def suggest this book.

What a great way to start a 1st Birthday for my Granddaughter. She loved the book and I was surprised that it was made so well. She wants it read over and over and of course she wants a cake over and over again too!

My 1 year old daughter loves to read so we have purchased numerous children's books recently. I have bought several of Karen Katz's books and have been completely happy with each one. She is a wonderful children's author, and her illustrations are great! The books are enjoyable to read to my daughter because they tell a simple story and get my daughter involved in the book by lifting the flaps. The flaps are pretty durable. I have had to repair a few pages so far, but that is to be expected with these types of books and one year old hands. We love Karent Katz and you will too!

The copy of the book I received did not have any "sparkly foil" on any of the pages inside the book, cover only. I was disappointed. I think my 1 year old would have liked the book more if it had come as advertised.

I saw the book at the library and read it front to back nearly a hundred times. THere is nothing wrong with reading it as a 56 year old because it is great for any age. After reading it at the library, I decided to order SEVEN copies for myself. This book will forever be a birthday cake classic that cannot be forgotten! This book is a stay-up-all-night page-turner and even though we have read it about one hundred times, my retired teacher and I are always caught with surprise at the end! I bought seven copies because once we read the book about forty times, it tends to fall apart at the corners and seams a little bit. I have always been not-so-gentle with my books, so this is no biggie. We just CANNOT wait for the next LITTLE SIMON books! Every time I pull the book out to read, my retired teacher jumps up and down in jubilance and we sit around the fire to read the great story!!! Thank you to the authors of Little Simon books!!!!! This book is really interactive and it gives everyone who reads it great joy. At my house, I have a copy in my living room on the coffee table for visitors to flip through; another copy in the bathroom with the magazines for people to read; yet ANOTHER copy in my bedroom to read before I get tucked into bed; and even ANOTHER copy in my kitchen to study while I'm waiting for cakes, brownies, muffins, breads, and such to bake. The last three copies are: 1) on the front porch, in case I ever get locked out of my house so I can have something to do while waiting for my retired teacher to get home to let me it; 2) in the car, to read at red lights and in heavy traffic; and 3) at work, so when my boss isn't looking I can sift through it for pleasure reading. I will never tire of this book because it is an absolute favorite of mine. However, if I did have to rate it, in terms of favorites, It would be favorite number 2, while number 1 is "My Little Pony Storybook Collection," which I have written a review on because it is so good. I reccomend getting BOTH these books, because they are AWESOME. TTFN, Best Gamer.
