More About the Author

I am a lover of books -- these treasures that stack up endlessly before us, each one asking to be read. I've been dreaming up stories and putting pen to paper since I learned to write the alphabet. It is an affliction, to say the least. Like any obsession, it is exceedingly difficult to quit. I gave up giving up a long time ago.

I began my first novel twenty-five years ago, after my first grown-up adventure: a trip to San Francisco. I fell in love with the city. The night I returned, I dreamed the entire plot to, "Where the Deer Dwell." It was a work in process for those many years until it was published in 2012. I vowed that I would not continue my writing career without finishing what I set out to do all those years ago.

"Paradox Love," is my latest novel, first in the "Paradox Love," series. Another serious affliction is my inability to write a typical novel. I never wanted to waste years of my life and the passion it takes to create merely to write a marketable novel. Don't get me wrong. To entertain the reader is my greatest joy. But I just can't help myself when it comes to writing a message into the stories I write.

Back in the early 90s, when I was beginning, "Where the Deer Dwell," I was writing about the issues of global warming before I'd even heard the terminology used. And in "Paradox Love," I present the reader with what I hope is a gripping love story. But alongside and indeed interwoven, I spin a tale of dogs. Their stories are hard to read, but the lives of dogs are often times far from fairy tales. Maybe you can let me know whether you thought the concept worked or not.

I am at work on the second book in the "Paradox Love," series, which is best written and conceptualized while enjoying the beautiful city I call home, San Diego, California.

Fast paced, creative tale. Had to finish in one day. It's an Earth-Mama meets Indiana Jones meets Bhudda adventure story . Very unusual. Thought provoking but not preachy. A fun read.

I truly loved this book! It was definitely a surprise, as the first few chapters lull you into thinking that you know what this book is going to be about, then with neck-cracking speed it changes gears and throws you into a beautiful, dangerous, and thrilling world. The only reason I put my iPad down while reading this book was simply because children need to be fed and changed... if I had had the option to just sit down and read it through the night in one heart-pounding session I would have.

I really liked the MC Olivia, and for anyone familiar with my reviews, you know that this is a real treat for me. A big gripe of mine is annoying main characters, but I felt that this book was refreshing since it featured a woman who was smart and strong, who comes into herself and learns her lessons along the way, and who does what she believes to be right even at great personal sacrifice. Jalen was absolutely perfect, I loved him. He was a great mixture of manliness without being too hot-headed, and sensitive enough to be in tune with Olivia's needs.

The point-of-view jumping was masterfully done and added richness to the novel. The plot was intricate and strings were tied together so that I felt satisfied at the end. It also felt like a huge relief at the end of the book... I love happy endings. I love when everyone gets what they deserve, and I feel GOOD when I finished the book. I like feeling happy. Lately I've been reading books that have nasty cliffhangers or throw you into a tailspin with a weird twist of events that leave you upset and scratching your head at the end. This book left me feeling fulfilled and satisfied at the end, even though there could be more of this story to be told, the main problem of this book was wrapped up by the end and I felt great about that.

This fantasy novel captures the reader's attention from page 1. The story is fast-paced, written for both the young adult and the seasoned fantasy-reader.

The characters are well-defined and will love them immediately. A battle between good and evil, wrapped around a love story that potentially spans thousands of years, with an unexpected hero thrown in makes this the story the world can enjoy and embrace.

If you enjoy time travel, fantasy anecdotes with the right amount of romance and mystery where good conquers evil and love has a chance to blossom over the most strenuous of circumstances, you will not be dissapointed in 'Where the Deer Dwell.'

I hope to see more from this author and read more about these characters in future novels. I highly recommend this book.

When I read a book, I like to be taken somewhere. This book does exactly that. Gravelle sends you to a familiar yet unknown place, introducing you to characters that stay with you well after reading this novel. The detailed descriptions serve to allow you to "see" everything as though you are right there, a part of it all. And isn't that what a good book should do? This is a very creative story with an exciting ending I will keep to myself. Bravo, Dorothy Cravelle! Hope to see more soon.

Where is book two? I want more!

This has been the most satisfying read I've had in a long time. Unrequited office romance, abduction, then Clan of the Cavebears. Let go of disbelief. Enjoy the ride. There is action and adventure but also Walden contemplation and zen yoga.

I must admit that I am too ADD to sit still for the meditation bits, but I put on the fast text-to-speech and felt more in touch with the main character.

Dorothy Gravelle, I can hardly wait to read more of your work!

This was an excellent book, a mixture of fantasy, history, and science fiction. The premise of going far back in time has been done before, but this was a fresh twist with engaging, believable characters.

It's a great story, and relevant to the happenings of today. A time travel fiction novel with an interesting twist at the end. Well worth the read.

This is a great book with interesting characters and settings. The idea of a whole world going on under a museum in San Francisco is fascinating. Once back in time, the story goes deeper and is just beautiful. I heard there is another book continuing the saga on its way, and I can't wait to read it!
