This book is very slow.,

This review is from: Where Evil Sleeps (Hardcover)
This book is slow and it is not getting to the point fast enough. She is using a lot of words to say nothing. Just like Terry McMillian's How Stella Got Her Groove Back, this book is allowing us to get into Tamara's inner thoughts. Some of her thoughts need not be heard. They are somewhat useless to me. I checked this book out from the library a little over 3 weeks ago and I'm only half way through it. It's just plain boring to me. It is going to take me another 3 weeks to finish it. I was reading other reviews about her other books. I am going to try and give this sister the benefit of the doubt and try to read her other books. If you really want to read good mystery written by an African American women then you should read books written by Eleanor Taylor-Bland, now she's an excellent mystery writer. I am going to finish this book only because a sister wrote it. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.

Great Book. A powerful twist to the ending. Awesome Writer,

I just loved Tamara Hayle. But it seems she is the poorest PI I have ever read about. She never has money for anything. Anyway, Where Evil Sleeps was very good. I got the book as a Christmas gift and once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. Just when I thought Tammy was going to find out that she was being set-up by those druggies, she had no clue what was going on. As I read the part about her searching for the money with that stupid girl, I just knew that Tammy was going to figure out she was being set-up. Basil Dupre is my man. He always seems to appear just in the nick of time to save Tammy's butt. They really just ought to get together at least throughout one book. Anyway, the book was really awesome. I can't wait to read the next book. It sounds familiar. The beginning starts out with Tammy about to get car-jacked. I swear the same thing happened to me just before Thanksgiving. I was just as calm and collective as Tammy. Then when it really hit me what had just happened, I almost collapsed. The thief got away with my car, but I got it back within three days. I could swear I knew the kid. Anyway, Valerie, you go girl. Love your books, read all of them. Keep up the good work!!!!!

A good read!,

This review is from: Where Evil Sleeps (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the second Tamara Hayle mystery that Ive read and I can't wait for the third. However, I must admit that this one was a bit more difficult to follow than her first novel. I agree with the other reader who said that Tamara seemed to stumble upon the answer to this mystery, rather than relying on her detective skills to solve it. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the book and cannot wait to see what becomes of Tamara's relationship with Basil!

No "Sleep" on this novel!,
This review is from: Where Evil Sleeps (Mass Market Paperback)
WHERE EVIL SLEEPS wasn't as fast-paced as the last two Tamara Hayle mysteries, but it still had a good storyline that was filled with interesting characters and enough action and mystery to keep me reading. It had it's moments of filler space, still, keep reading. A good third novel in this series. Mrs. Wilson-Weseley, keep the ball rolling!

Tamara Hayle is an ex-cop PI on vacation in Jamaica when she meets three people who invite her out for drinks. After the man sitting across from her gets stabbed to death in the heart, all hell breaks loose. Drug money, Jamaican gangsters, a love interest, and a cast of intriguing characters bring this romantic mystery to life. Valerie Wilson Wesley has a way with prose that is all her own, and it will keep you turning pages.

Something Special,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Where Evil Sleeps (Mass Market Paperback)
I think this book is EXCELLENT! At the end of each chapter I couldn't stop reading. The characters were well described and the emotions were well thought out. This is the second Tamara Hayle mystery I read and I can't wait to read the others. I would also like to compliment the illustrator because the cover is what caught my attention to buy the book. I can easily say that this book is Something Special.

Detective Tamara Hale's romp in Jamaica is no vaction,
By A Customer
This review is from: Where Evil Sleeps (Hardcover)
After reading the first two novels starring
our favorite Detective Tamara Hale, I was
looking forward to reading this novel.
The novel started out good with Hale as
the innocent tourist down in Jamaica on vacation
drawn into a murder mystery(very Hitchcock) in a
nightclub by a film noir type woman. The rest of
the novel has the character running around trying
to solve the murder , trying to get her lost
passport and money back, and running from the
real killer.
The characters she encounters leave me cold. They
are stereotypes that have been rehashed countless
times in detective novels. The only highlight in
the novel is the sexual tension between Hale and
Dupree comes to a head.
